GGL just may be a Spanish player with a game I really like. I'm sure there's at least one more out there. I liked Ferrero's game too. Edited to liked. 'cos he's retired.

Feliciano Lopez should be to your taste, too. Big serve, good on grass and HCs.

Was thinking Lopez yeah but last few matches I've watched by him he was very poor. When's he's good, he's good though. He was awful against Murray last match they played. It's a bad matchup for him but he was still beyond awful. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I even like the way Nadal plays when he's hitting DTL forehands brilliantly  But more often than not I don't like matches where he grinds out wins. The aggressively played wins I do. But you know I prefer aggressive tennis. GGL is pretty aggressive.

Very sporting of GGL to wear a luminous shirt to help Djokovic as the night approaches :D

...and a true headcase! I related to you that clay match several years ago in Germany against Federer where Lopez was up a set and break, even had a 5-2 lead in closing a TB and gave it all back after missing a baby smash at the net! He tried to laugh it off at first until he started choking his guts out! It was a complete collapse and you see that a lot with these so called top Spanish players! I still can't get over Verdasco in complete control over Murray on grass at Wimbledon last year! He was up 2 sets to none and I said to myself, "he's going to give this match back;" and he did to the eventual Champion! Sick! I've seen it enough with Borg in the past coming back from insurmountable odds on all surfaces, but he was great; these are just choking dogs giving matches away IMO!

^ Verdasco's a terrible choker alright and so is Almagro. That Wimbledon choke was beyond atrocious. Verdasco's record is finals is horrendously poor too although at least he won one last week but at the expense of losing meekly here in a bigger, way more important tournament.

That's funny because in my day, when most courts didn't have lites, we'd wear something that was reflective and helped as night fell! lol! :snigger

I'm sure most people thought Ferrer would choke it all away this morning against Rafa, but without seeing it, it appears someone was error-prone! Must have been very ugly; even at his best I think it's ugly! It'll be hard to watch on the repeat even though the result was to my liking!

Garcia-Lopez has played valiantly and as a real fighter. He had the upper hand for a while, but the cream has risen to the top and this match will soon be over. Novak has shown he is simply the better player. Even so, Garcia-Lopez has acquitted himself quite well. He has played a top notch match.

Novak was able to do what Nadal was unable to do earlier against Ferrer. Were Rafael to have won that second set, I personally believe he'd have won in a routine third set.

Watching GGL frustrate the daylights out of Berdych yesterday, I thought he'd be a good test for Novak. A slow start against a hot player makes for difficult 3 setters.

edit: Novak stretching out that bad wrist. :(

The break point chances lost by GGL in set 2 hurt him badly.

It happens again and again; they're so close, then the 3rd is just a formality! Same for Roger this morning! He should be on his way back home, but will make entertaining match tomorrow vs Nole! :nono :clap

At risk sounding like a fan of the player whose name rhymes with Nadal, I would have no issue with him sitting out Madrid.

Also while it's a bit premature, Novak will have the opportunity to even his h2h with Fed tomorrow.

Great performance by GGL and much respect to him. Hopefully Roger v Novak will be a good one and not too sloppy.

It would be nice if he could win here, rest the wrist and come back strong for Rome.

Great battle. I'm sorry that GG couldn't take his opportunities in the 2nd, but the tournament directors will be happy that Roger and Novak hung in there today.
