It has the vibe of a Slam final (or at least SF)

Can someone list some comps to Rune, in terms of play style? I can't quite place it. He seems extremely powerful, with an explosiveness that he can turn on - though that might just be the "Norwegian Danish wood" of his legs. LOL.

I'll give him props for his focus being the crowd's villain.

Well, that was a bit anti-climactic. Notice Sinner's "greeting" at the net...I think Holger is not well-liked on tour.

Very cold hand shake at the net. Rune was just a better player in the 3rd set and deserved a win.

I like Rune's legs..he likes to play mind games with his opponents and Sinner was very frosty to him at the net.

The announcers talked about a "new Big Three" a couple times, talking about Alcaraz, Rune, and Sinner. I think there's some truth to that, with some caveats:

  1. It should go without saying, but it is almost certainly a "less big" three. But I don't think anyone is saying otherwise.
  2. I think Sinner is, or will be, a step behind the other two. For one, I just don't see the explosiveness or overall talent of Rune and Alcaraz. Secondly, I think this is where age is key. Sinner is almost two years older - he turns 22 in August, whereas Rune and Alcaraz turn 20 next month. While every player is different, I think it is fair to predict that Rune and Alcaraz have more maturation and development ahead of them than Sinner.
  3. Finally, while I agree that these three are the most promising young players on tour right now - at least that have already shown a high level of play - I think there will be less separation than the "real" Big Three, or at least more "Andy Murrays." Medvedev is right there, there's still hope Zverev re-captures his peak form of a couple years ago, and there's just a nice group of elite and "sub-elite" guys on tour.

The reason Jannik was frosty at the net, Rune aimed a couple of shots at him, though he said it wasnt 'intentional' ?
Jannik didnt look too pleased lol!

Jannik is still a player in progress in his game, he will develop more at his own pace, though this year, he has improved, he is a hard worker, he has a great coach in Cahill

I hope the final is a competitive one with no more rain, hopefully Rublev will win, he is long overdue at this level!

I agree with your first part of this statement. I do think that both Alcaraz and potentially Rune will have a better athlete explosiveness than Sinner. Talent is debatable, but I can see both sides of the coin.

The 2nd second part, I completely disagree. So, you are telling me that Sinner is who only 1.8 years older than Alcaraz and Rune will have more development and maturation than Sinner?! Then, in that case Medvedev should have not become a better player than both Tsitsipas and Zverev because he is older than both them.

Weather forecast is looking better for tomorrow. They are 1:1 in H2H. Knowing how much Rune hates to lose and with bad memories of their last match in AO it's an extra motivation. Rublev might come short again for his first Masters, but he is playing good tennis here in MC last few years and will have his chances tomorrow. Hoping for a good final.

There is a free flowing element in the Danish Angel’s athleticism i find so appealing. Nothing constricted when he is in full flight, Im excited to see if he can beef up the serve more, but the 2 H backhand is buttah.

At worst by Monday little Holger will rise to a career high 7th in the computer rankings and if he wins he leaps up to # 6.
