Ugh, the familiar narrative: younger/second tier unable to close out the big players. I feel my inner Fiero coming on.

On his 5th match point, Goffin takes it. Had never beaten Novak before. Big scalp for him. Novak didn't really look like he was going to make it to Sunday all week.

Right on cue, Nole loses. The debacle continues.

I think Nole's toast until maybe around the USO, but more likely this Fall could be a decent time for him to build something heading into 2018.

That seems a bit too long. I guess it depends on how much is mental and how much is physical. But the clay season can't be written off for him yet.

Schwartzmann stayed well with Rafa until the end of the first set.

I expect Nadal to start going through the gears though now he's got the set under his belt.

Beauty of a curler from way outside the tramlines by Rafa for a winner, and then he breaks for the lead in the 2nd.

Schwartzman is gritty and persistent, but there is talk of darkness, so Rafa had better finish him off here. EDIT: And right on cue, he does. 61st win in Monte Carlo. Last seed standing, I think.

So, shall we cancel the rest of MC and award the trophy to Rafa or do we really need to play it out.
