So, shall we cancel the rest of MC and award the trophy to Rafa or do we really need to play it out.
Sounds about right. Congrats Rafa!

Let's not speak too soon. This will be a litmus test. In days of yore, Rafa trits home and gnashes the trophy. Now? Let's see.

That seems a bit too long. I guess it depends on how much is mental and how much is physical. But the clay season can't be written off for him yet.

We will see but you can't go from zero to hero in 1 second. We saw it with Fed in 2013, there was physical issues for sure but a lot of it became mental as the bad losses piled up. Fed fans were hoping and maybe expecting that he'd suddenly return to full force in one tournament but it took awhile. We saw a little improvement that Fall and even though he was far from his normal self that was something to build on. Then the offseason came and he was ready to play well again in 2014. Nadal has had it similar, he was never going to randomly start playing great in the middle of 2015 after terrible play for a year. Then in clay season last year he showed signs of a mini-resurgence until injury at the French, that was important even if he was still far from playing great again.

Nole has now been at a very low level for almost a full year, he isn't going to completely dig out of it tomorrow, or next week, or even next month. That's why a win here would've been a positive even though he would've lost easy to Nadal, it'd have been baby steps on the path back to being a great player.

So to sum it up, I am writing him off of clay and grass season. He may feature by the time USO comes along.

Go back and rewatch the match again.I think I am correct about this .Nick overruled the chair empire about the call against Roger..Nick did the same thing against Sasha the previously match.

He didn´t (had no chance, in fact, he is a fair player, I know). Someone called out, Federer missed, end of story. He did not make much of a fuss about it, just complained to the umpire while he was walking back to change sides.

I take your points. And it wouldn't bother me if you're right. He's had a hard time of late with guys he used to dust off the court, and then of course losing to some, like today. That's going to leave some scar tissue on the ol' confidence. His level has really dropped off since RG last year, and it's a little mysterious. I thought he'd have rediscovered his motivation by now. As to injuries, he used to come back from short layoffs and win tournaments or Majors, so that doesn't tell the whole story, either.

Haha, if it was Fed I'd be feeling the same, so I know what you mean! Of course, anything can happen, but Rafa is a true champion and I just can't see him letting this slip away.

It will be an unprecedented 10th title for him almost surely on Sunday - what an achievement that would be!

Your lips to God's Ears but here's the inside skinny: Sam Querry.

Say no more.

Let's not even mention an ancient bloke who shouldn't even win a set against him now...

Kudos @mrzz: you came within 2 games of getting 100% on that bold prediction. I think the Baron is going to have to rethink his assessment of your chances with this draw. :good:

Yep, very close. I had a very long bragging act rehearsed if I would get 100%, but 2 out of 3 -- close to 3 out of 3 or not -- is not good enough. And I am still cursing about the Cuevas match (even if I like Pouille's game too).

Speaking about predictions, a couple of years ago I predicted that Goffin would win a masters on clay, on the following year (I guess that would be 2014 or 2015, not sure). For instance it was on a "bold predictions" thread. If he wins this now, I only missed by a few years.

Of course, the other 242435 predictions that never came close to happen does not count.

No doubts that Goffin is playing very good, I've read that today was very humed and therefore the ball very heavy which doesn't help the top spin of Nadal (like Miami) hope tomorrow will be more dry but anyway if Rafa plays confident and well I don't think Goffin could do too much
