As good a player Novak has become over the years, a sharp slice to his forehand still bothers him a bit. You can't use it all the time and have him build up a rhythm for the shot, but used here and there, it is a good shot to play against him.

He's got a potentially tough run to the final: Murray (or Jo), Fed, and then Rafa - barring upsets. He didn't push himself in this one. It was nice to see him conserve energy, hit a lot of balls, work on his bh dtl and volleys. He will be a lot sharper in the quarters.

Sweet. I hope he keeps it up. Before it started I favoured him to win but it's early days yet. That said, I'd love to see Federer play Ferrer too and he'll have a harder time against Nishikori if he wins.
