^ Sorry to be obtuse…but I still don't get it. What broken shoelace?
Remember that match in the AO this year against Nishikori when Nadal fell? He broke his shoelace after that fall and was forced to put on some new shoes. Ever since, the terms 'shoelace' or 'broken shoelace' have been given to him. Well, from what I've heard...

I don't really remember that, but I'd imagine our own Broken Shoelace might have an opinion about co-opting his name. ;)

ˆ Thanks for the link. I did believe you, but I'm still not convinced by the nickname. However, I'll take it over some of the less salubrious ones. ;)

^ It's not like it is a widely used nickname or anything, but I have just heard tossed around on a few occasions and it stuck with me.

Anyway, hurry up, Sharapova!!

Joao Sousa took out Simon today. Big scalp for him.
Agut advances over JJ
Dolg and F3 win
Popsicle loses
And Cilic seems to have cooled off losing to Vasselin?

Kept checking in to see if Rafa's on court yet - while catching up on the DVR. All caught up and Maria is still playing. :s

Anybody has heard what happened to Tommy Haas??
I am seeing his name vanished from the draw and has been replaced by Dusan Lajovic.
Lajovic, just like Becker, took full advantage of his LL fortune, upset Lu and he is now finding himself in R3.
Tommy's ranking will get a hit, he was last year in the SF, he is now out of the top 15.

All I can find, but thought it might be his shoulder. Nothing from more reputable news sources yet.

Another news just scrutinizing the draw, Florian Mayer has withdrawn, so Nole will not play tomorrow

Anyone here think Rusty could snatch a set?

Depends on how gimpy Ralf's back is - if he's moving well and hitting his shots deep, Rusty won't get a set.

:( Poor Tommy. I wish he'd skipped the mickey mouse tournaments at the start of the year and maybe this wouldn't have flared up on him again. He overplayed at the start of the year and has been a lot the last few years and I can understand with his age he wants to play as much as he can, but he should surely prioritize being fit for the big events and not the small nothing events. :cover

The 3 upsets managed by Agut, Sousa and Roger-Vasselin are not much of a surprise for me.
All 3 of them have been featured on my weekly update with the new career high ranking lists, Agut and Sousa just this week after IW and Roger-Vasselin has been on that list several times this year.
All of these guys have become true dangerous floaters.
A player ranked around 40 or so should be taken seriously by any seeded player!

Overall the seeds did not have a good day.
Besides JJ, Simon, Pospisil, Cilic, also the following waved bye-bye:
Gael Monfils upset by Garcia-Lopez and Tursunov by Istomin.

I don't want to make you sad, but I am almost sure that Tommy may kiss good-bye to a top 10 ranking. That ship has left the harbour.
