I take your point with the 'mental fortitude of FAA to win a GS' beating players like Alcaraz etc, the glaring stat for me today was the winners to UFE, in the 1st set he could not find the court with his shots, 2 W to 7 UFE.
Let me dig into a bit my Brotha El Dude.. remember the thing that made Pete so great was his cyborg ish approach to the game. Folks said that he was boring but I saw a very focused cyborg sent from the future to destroy the entire ATP ( I still can't figure out why Edberg was somewhat problematic for Pete at times but I won't go there because this board too Pro Edberg and I don't have the numbers to support it.). FAA mind goes walkabout but Rafa and Pete's mind didn't. FAA has everything that Sampras has but he is not cyborg assassin..To be a champion you have to be an Assassin..Rafa, Roger especially Novak, Alcaraz Borg are all the pure examples of Assassin's mentally..Feel me ..your thoughts

Sampras also had trouble with Richard Krajicek! Guys with a big serve and could volley well can be problematic for any player; even BORG!:face-with-hand-over-mouth::face-with-tears-of-joy:

Alas, I am unable to go to the tournament again today as my tickets are no good for today's matches for reasons I care not to go into. It was nice what I was able to see. I really look forward to Fritz against Carlitos. Ought to be a good one. My money is on Alcaraz, but I hope it is a quality battle.

Believe it or not, they’re showing live matches now. Be sure to catch it before the rain begins in the next 2-3 minutes.

Armitraj mentioned Madrid/Rome going to 2 wk. events w/ an expand'd draw! When did this happen? Chk'd ahead to see Shanghai going 2 wks too!

It boggles my mind how many forget what a singularly & unique weapon the Sampras 1st ( and even 2nd) serve was.

A player would get a great ROS, maybe a Sampras UFE, & suddenly Pete was down 0-30. Pete would then , like clockwork, get 4 serve bombs in a row and held serve just like that.

That serve was so “clutch” or in your words “cyborg”. No guess work, you just knew Pistol Pete would buckle down and the service winners would commence.

No No JF. You are doing Pete's serve an injustice..how many times have we seen Pete go down love 40 and down to a 2 nd serve come back with 5 aces or something like that serves . Felix's serve can be that way but his mind needs to confidence to provide him the guts to go for those serves.

Alcaraz is toying with Fritz..

In boxing terms "they're in different weight classes!" It's the reason I pull back when it comes to celebrating and being more hopeful about Fritz's career! He's way up there in terms of "cracking a shot," but you have to do it consistently to stay on top! Elite players can still hold him off! You can't take too seriously his wins over Nadal last year! It was embarrassing the losses Rafa took! This season's been no better dropping match to deMinaur in The United Cup! Alcaraz is overthinking it tonight & overdoing the dropshots! I don't think Fritz can keep it up even though Novak fans would apprec. the assist! Novak takes back #1 ranking if Carlito doesn't win Miami! On the live rankings it's already been given back to Novak! :fearful-face:
