It's the best thing has happened to Rafa, now he has plenty time to take a litle rest and training on clay to be ready for his 10 RG, yes!

If Rafa loses early at RG, I am sure you would say that is the best thing that happened to him as he can start practicing on grass earlier than others and win his 3rd Wimbledon this year. :snicker

Hey, don't try to provoke me, then when I respond your friend 'lacatch' would jump over me :D :snicker

So Roger's out with a stomach bug. Nadal dropped out with heat exhaustion. Stan has his head up his butt - and lost yet another early round match. Murray will probably have another brain fart loss in the next couple of rounds. Why don't they just stop the men's tourney and give Nole the trophy and let everybody else take the rest of the week off?

There is not much of a difference from last year. Roger did not play Miami and Rafa and Stan both lost in R3, now they just lost one round earlier.
The big difference is in fact Isner losing early, while last year he made the SF.

You shouldn't be bothered by his positive attitude. Its to his discretion how he takes positives regarding his favourite player's situation.

4 players retired through their matches yesterday: Nadal, Bellucci, Bedene, Stakhovsky.
Weere all these cases due to the virus or heat?

There's much speculation it's drug testing as well. Who knows really. Not like it's that hot compared to many places these guys play. Bellucci lives in Brazil ffs. Not like he's a stranger to heat.

Btw, more than 4 retired. In total we have:

Stakhovsky, Nadal, Belluci, Ram, Kukushkin and Monaco.

Kukushkin did not retire. Bellucci did while playing against Kukushkin.

Sorry thought he did. Was away for the last 2 days and couldn't watch matches on my wife's tablet for some reason. Still though, more than 4 have quit mid match this tournament so something is definitely going on. Heat/humidity seems strange considering it's only best of 3 and these guys play in way hotter conditions than this. So it's either food poisoning (all of them ? very unlikely), a very contagious virus or drug testing.

They have a heat policy in Oz. If players are retiring because of heat, then it's not good for the event. It seems excessive down there right now. But I don't see anything positive from this event for Rafa. It was a wasted journey, with no benefit to him whatsoever... :nono

Yeah but that extreme heat policy is when it hits over 40C/104F. It was nothing like that in Miami.

a wasted journey

Brother, Have you ever been to South Beach or Key Biscayne..I cant speak for Rafa but for the weather and the Sights:basiate:heart:.. Its never a wasted journey Trust me..

I think anytime a pro player can get an opportunity to incorporate into his training added "Sparring sessions" with the likes of Murray, Stan or a numerous members of the ATP tour. Rafa will recover and be ok for the beginning of the European clay tours. No setbacks in Miami

It's not only heat, but humidity. Even Nadal's opponent called a MTO due to feeling dizzy, and considered retirement. It's obviously an issue, or players wouldn't retire, feel dizzy, etc...

I realize that but the humidity isn't that high at the moment. I was checking yesterday and it was 68% which isn't high really and they play in way hotter places like Dubai, Melbourne, Rio and even London. Yes, Wimbledon last year was way hotter than Miami and the court side temps reached 44C which is nuts and the humidity in western Europe is often worse than tropical climates. They either aren't drinking enough water to counter their diuretics or they've all caught some bug.

Who knows? I just read that there was a break during last years final due to the conditions, and it was only 30 degrees. I think that you and I - both coming from wet and windy Ireland - aren't going to be experts. Perhaps a local like Shawnbm or somebody else could tell us...

IIRC, the heat policy is only for women and so the men should be used to playing in heat for long hours.

Why would you think that this group of the most well conditioned athletes in the world wasnt drinking "enough water" in Key biscayne this week. Front, anyone can succumb to heat exhaustion no matter how much water you consume. Its really depends how much you hydrate your body with (water, fruits, veggies, salt and etc) the day before
