The Tournament

The Miami Open is one of the crown jewels of the spring hard-court season. As a combined ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 event, it brings together the world’s best men and women for two weeks of high-stakes competition under the Florida sun.

Originally launched in 1985 and long known for its star power and glamorous atmosphere, the tournament is now staged at Hard Rock Stadium. The transformation of an NFL venue into a tennis showpiece creates one of the most distinctive settings on tour - a vast centre court built inside the stadium bowl, surrounded by multiple outer courts and a festival-style campus.

The Miami Open has consistently delivered defining moments in the sport. Its honour roll includes many of the game’s most iconic champions across eras, and lifting the trophy here is often seen as a statement of dominance on hard courts. The conditions - warm temperatures, humidity, and sometimes lively breezes - test endurance as much as shot-making, favouring players who combine power with patience.

Few cities match Miami’s blend of colour, culture, and coastline. Set between Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, Miami is a crossroads of the Americas, shaped by Latin American and Caribbean influences that give it a distinct rhythm and identity.

From the Art Deco streets of South Beach to the glass towers of Brickell and the creative energy of Wynwood, Miami feels vibrant and international. Sunshine, palm trees, music, and nightlife are part of daily life - and during tournament week, tennis becomes another strand in the city’s dynamic tapestry.

The Miami Open captures that spirit perfectly: elite sport presented with flair, in a city that thrives on spectacle, diversity, and big-stage moments.

Good news is Coco Gauff has arrived in Miami and has had a practice, though the weather in Miami has been poor with rain, hopefully it clears before the tournament begins

I watched Ancdreescu's qualifying match today, against Volynets she lost 75 62, Volynets played really well, but I was surprised by Bianca's lack of tactical awareness and lack of fight, Bianca's fight and grit has always been a factor in her matches, she has won a couple of challenger events of late., I was expecting a better showing in this match from Bianca

Blinkova d Kenin 36 61 63, will face Victoria Mboko in round 2. Kenin has now lost 8 consecutive matches after winning her season opener? maybe it is time to cut the apron strings of her father, and look for a new coach
Another player that either needs to take time off the tour or look for a new coach, Haddad Maia got rid of her long time coach btw.
Haddad Maia falls to 1- 9 on the season and that 1 win was in qualifying?
Sonmez v Bencic in Round 2.

This is an tournament update!
Due to heavy rain in the lead up to the tournament, limited areas of the Stadium Court, requited additional preparation to ensure optimal conditions for match play. All matches on Wednesday 18th March, will take place on the outer courts.Fans with stadium tickets for session 3 and 4 will be contacted directly for next steps.
The Stadium Court is expected to open for tournament play on Thursday March 19.
