You can't win them all; esp. defending as many points as Roger had to do after so much success last spring! He was rather lucky to have a cakewalk of players "down under" to hold onto that major, but I didn't for a min. think he win both IW/Miami again! He should have at least won 1 match to regain the #1 ranking against Kokk! Age and nerves catches up with all of us eventually I guess!  :nono:

I really don't think it was nerves. I don't think he's been putting the hard yards. It's so obvious today that he had no confidence in his shot making. In IW I thought it was just the conditions. This happens when you've cut down on your hard practice and you're trying to maintain racquet control on the fly. I'm not bothered about the losses to be honest. Rather in relatively meaningless matches. He has time to get his shit together before Wimbledon. And personally I don't care a damn about the rankings. He needs to go home and do some work now and get ready for the grass. My only disappointment was that I was hoping he would win his 100th title at Wimbledon. Now assuming he skips the clay, he would have to win Halle and Stuttgart before Wimbledon. That's not easy!

Also we can't discount the possibility that this great one year heightened level might be ending. I hope not!

It isn't about level it is about motivation and mental toughness. This one was just given away to a guy we won't be hearing anything from IMO. Good to see a healthy Kokk :) But I don't see him being one of the big young guns even if he stays healthy. Roger was just pushing the ball in and refused to win in the third set.

Lol! You get so emotional after a loss mate. I actually wasn't saying it was about motivation at all. Frankly I think Roger got a little cocky. Things have been going extremely well for him. I totally disagree about mental toughness. If you haven't done the work then no amount of mental toughness is going to help you when you have to back your shots. If it's not working it's not working. He needs to get back to hard work or hang up his spurs. It's disrespectful to the tour if he thinks he can just bluff his way through this level of tennis. I'm actually happy this has happened now. It's a good wake up call. Wimbledon is what matters

Doubt he's scared of someone he's fucked up 5 straight times. Especially when poor whittle Whafa is out hurt. If anything proves your narrative false it's Roger already declaring he's going to miss clay.

Anyone who's shocked by this hasn't been paying attention. He was never going to play on the dirt. And I rolled my eyes when people deluded themselves that a calendar year slam attempt was in play. Only in our dreams folks. He's 36yrs old. Just winning one slam in a season is an awesome achievement.

So true and with you on him likely slacking on practice lately. Actually, he's said it himself: he's practicing only half the time last few years. Time to recharge the brain and get to work after the shameful punishment Mirka is due to give him later. May take a few days for him to recover from that :D

I agree it's a good wake up call but I'm not worried his level has suddenly disappeared. Motivation after #20 and getting back to #1 was always going to be a question. There'd be something wrong if he wanted to win as bad as his opponent. The key is not just totally dogging it when the biggest prizes are up for grabs. Thankfully he is skipping clay

bwahaha! He won't be able to sit down after the punishment! I can see Mirka wearing the leather gear. And Roger in a gimp outfit! :lulz1:
