So many double faults from Thiem

Saying that, Fed just did one himself

3-3 in the tie break

Thiem takes the second set

Fed had match point on his serve as well

Thiem had a chance to serve out a breadstick to Fed. It seemed as though he realized what he was doing... and tightened up. In the end he was fortunate to take the second set.

Wow. I did not expect this.
Dominic was having such a poor record on grass coming into this season and now he defeats Roger.
Good for him.

It's not a bad result for Federer. Thiem is in a rich vein of form, which he's carried over from clay to grass, and Roger is just limbering up after a break...

I actually expected it. Federer is rusty and Thiem has massive power and made it hard out there. Roger looks very tentative and for years has problems against big hitters. Even if Federer hadn't been off for months it would've been a steep challenge but a little less rust and he would've closed it out when he had match point. Kudos to Thiem and delighted to see decent new players in the top 10. Currently #7 in the live rankings.

Yup, this result is more relevant for Dominic than Roger. He needs to step up on all surfaces to make his breakout lasting and become a permanent resident of top 10.
Roger can still get into better groove next week. This is why it was so important to enter in both grass warm up events for him.

The rain delays, while annoying for both players, probably affected Roger a lot more having come back after a long break and with little rhythm.

I think if Thiem starts to make it further in tournaments he might want to revisit his scheduling.

That is an understatement. He has played already in 15 events and we have yet to enter the second half of the season. He plays in Halle as well....:nono

Also, I like Thiem's willingness to come to net. He actually has a very good net game. That backhand though is beautiful to watch.

15 whoa. He's the new Davydenko in the top 10 at this rate.

Well I think part of that probably has to do with not expecting to make it into the Top 10 and have the slam result he did as soon as he did. I hope he has smart people in his camp that say hey buddy let's trim this schedule a bit.

I think if Roger plays another 3 matches in Halle and does not get a surprise hot shot in the first couple of rounds in Wimbledon, he might go deep.

That tumble in the back court seemed to rattle him a little. Then the rain delay... not good for older bodies. Thiem played well, and Roger looked a lot better than I expected. Thankfully he doesn't require a ton of matches to find his form.
