The only magic we've seen in the Caja Magica today is Nadal pulling unforced errors out of his ass. The forehand was non-existent today, but the backhand, he's better off not hitting it, at least he would conserve his energy a bit.

Commentator on TC just said this would equal Rafa's worst ever result on clay if it ends 6-3, 6-2.

(Now watch the Djokovic fans "like" this post. ;) )

The commentators on Sky have neatly summarised my previous concerns about Andy on clay. Get this...

Until this week Andy Murray had NEVER beaten anyone ranked in the top 8, on clay... never??

That is just a weird anomaly. I mean, tennis is tennis at the end of the day. Murray is too good to have a stat like that...:nono

Congrats to Andy! :clap :celeb:

Two clay titles in a row, after having never even reached a final -- and beating Nadal in a Masters final, no less.

I think the positive for Nadal is it was a truly horrible performance. Yeah, it sounds dumb to say that's a positive, but if you're going to lose, better console yourself with the fact that it was literally your worst clay court performance in ten years (ever?), and you can't possibly play worse than this.

Poor stuff from Rafa overall, but even had he won, he still has to work very hard. Great show by Andy, I'm actually glad for the guy, he really looks cool and in control since he got married. He's playing great tennis and no matter what he does next week in Rome, I think he's got this and last years RG to point to, giving him confidence for Paris...

Rafa shaking his head in disbelief after the forehand shank. MP/CP for Murray....another lame forehand and Murray is the new Madrid Champion. Good luck defending it next year :snicker

Congrats to Murray and his fans. He was solid today, no matter how Nadal was. He was clever from the baseline, used the DTL shots from both sides intelligently.

Rafa returns a second serve into the net on match point. A fitting end.

I hope this elevates Andy's belief and makes him compete at the top against Novak. Lord knows, Fedal doesn't seem up to it consistently anymore :nono

So where does Andy Murray rank on the pantheon of great clay courters such as Fabio Fognini, Kei Nishikori, and whoeever else Herios named last year? Has he finally overcome these legends?
