Nadal can only hope for Murray's level to drop and capitalize on it, he is not going to do it on his own...
Ugly stuff from him, the Rafa from AO 2015 is back ladies and gents.
Oh and Murray is playing out of his mind, at least considering his past results on clay.

I actually don't think Murray is playing out of his mind. That's what's so impressive. This is so... contained

There's no need for Murray to be playing out of his mind, with Rafa's error count at 24+

I think that's a symptom of Andy playing well, though. rafa is forcing things, where he's usually patient. Andy is doing everything just about right, and leaving Rafa little option but to try strike big, which he hasn't done yet...

No bagel for Nadal but he's eating a good loaf of ass whoop all the same.

Murray can't play out of his mind even if he wanted to since Nadal can't keep the ball in play. So it's a moot point really.

Also, a question to the board: Do we still have to wait for the FO to determine if Nadal is past his prime? I mean, he'll be ranked number 7 in the world after this match. Would winning the FO again somehow nullify everything we've seen for the past 15 months or so?

I disagree. Andy is not playing out of his mind. He is playing steady. In fact, he is not exploiting
Rafa's short balls to the extent that it deserves. However, what Andy is doing seems to be good enough for the day.

I will be really angry at Andy if he doesn't play like this in Rome, and take Djoko out. ( I know he won't, this is just a fools hope)

Even if he plays like this, no guarantee he'll take out #1

5-1. One game away from handing Nadal another clay final loss.

No. Winning the French would be like Fed winning Wimbledon in 2012

Even getting annoyed over silly things could not prevent Andy from winning the game. :clap

Now if he plays like he did against Nishi yesterday? He's got a good chance.

Not quite. Roger hadn't won a major in 2.5 years when he got Wimbledon in 2012. Rafa is the RG defending champion.

Novak is an entirely different cup of tea at this point in time. He would have to play significantly better than this. He's having an easy time on his serve today. That wouldn't happen with Nole

I think it would be slightly less surprising as he is the defending champion after all, but yes, it is more or less like that. I mean, I still expect him to reach the final in Roland Garros, though the ranking could change things considerably. He can face off against Novak much sooner.

We know he's physically capable. My question is will he be there mentally?

I think only Carol35 and posters like autopilot would argue such a thing.

I think the more relevant question is what his chances are at RG taking all this into account. Is it really only Novak that will be have a decent chance against him at this point?

Nadal avoids the bakery at home. Andy serves for the match 5-2

In a best of 5? Probably, yes. Can't think of anyone else really, including the guy currently handing him his a$$. I just can't picture Nadal playing this badly at Roland Garros. Maybe I'm denial, but I don't see it.

The commentators on Sky have neatly summarised my previous concerns about Andy on clay. Get this...

Until this week Andy Murray had NEVER beaten anyone ranked in the top 8, on clay... never??
