But, I am happy for an youngster making waves, taking out both Rafa and Roger out in his first
attempt. I just hope, his career does not end up like Nalby's who did the same.

Hewitt's another who did this. I don't know if there are more...

Well done! Earlier in the thread, I mentioned Nalbandian, but I forgot about Hewitt.

One thing is becoming clear about Nick: he rises to the occasion. That alone isn't enough to make him a potentially great player, because these greats also carve out the W in small events, or wherever their fiefdom can be expanded, or threatened. Their appetite for victory is total and they don't just play in the limelight. But maybe the other stuff will click with him too...

There is a very fine line between a Janowicz and a Kyrgios. I hope Nick stays on his side of the line and improves constantly. He just has to realize that when you beat Roger, you are not taking over his 17 slams. Stay hungry. All the personality is fine but stay humble, respect the game and the future is bright.

And also, that haircut? Dayum...

S/B coming still; a night match! Bonus for us I hope! I'm feeling "upset" here as well since they just played 2 days ago! :p :popcorn

Update: From Mail Online - "Andy Murray was joined on the practice court on Wednesday by Jonas Bjorkman - the man who will replace coach Amelie Mauresmo when she takes a break to have a baby.

Murray was putting the final touches to his preparations ahead of his second round match at the Madrid Open against Philipp Kohlschreiber later the same day.

Mauresmo is due to work with the British No 1 up until Wimbledon next month, by which point she will be in the latter stage of her pregnancy.

Gael breaks...over three hours and ten minutes and the match goes on.

That was a "tired" game from Gran.! I know it's hard to push through sometimes, but that was weak! The drop shot against someone like Gael is suicide and looking for trouble! :cover :eyepop :popcorn - Cramping up, Gran. ended it in over 3 hours! :cover - Andy Murray/Kohl to come? Kuznetzova still going against Stosur! They may have to put off starting another match this late; already after 11 pm in Madrid!

Seems like I missed a very entertaining match between Fed and Kyrgios. Fair play to Nick, that's a very good win. 3rd set TB must've been a nail biter. Will have to watch some highlights tomorrow. Too late now 'cos gotta get up early. Thought Fed would at least make the quarters here but hoping Nick goes further now as I like his game.

I can't force myself to watch the highlights of Fed vs...
I am utterly disgusted when I see the guy play, and it has nothing to do with Wafa just as tented said
Can someone briefly explain what the hell happened and why? How is Federer so bad on clay? Clay has become to Roger what grass is for Nadal. The losses aren't even that surprising anymore. He might as well skip the French Open and do extra early preps for Wimbo...

Been saying this since he finally took his lone title in '09! That was his real last chance even though he made another final in 2011! :eyepop :nono  :dodgy:

It wasn't so bad. Nick is a bloke who plays big in a tight spot. His serve got him through the final tiebreak, but also Federer served well too. What was it, 14-12? Entertaining from both players without many exceptional rallies. I don't mind Nick. I said that even after he beat Rafa at Wimbledon. You can't hold it against the guy that he utilises what he has. he's no Isner or Karlo, he's a lot more than that. And he doesn't wait around like Generation Grigor for these blokes to say, "okay I won enough, I'll let you have a few..."

The sad thing is, he can't do anything about it. He can whine and say, I wasn't comfortable, I couldn't return his first serve (Jesus what an excuse), etc but he shouldn't be humiliating himself anymore. This old man we see on court now just isn't Roger Federer. This is some guy who has a horrendous backhand and has no idea what he is doing anymore. You can call it denial or whatever, but I can't watch this guy anymore. The number of errors he makes is somewhere around his first serve percentage... :nono

I said he'd have to play "lights out" to get out of the early rounds in Madrid! You could tell he was doing everything he could to win last week in Istanbul and no one was really there in the top 10! He's a very weak #2, but the rest of ATP isn't asserting themselves enough; maybe beaten into submission by the superlative play of Nole who's killing it now! :nono

Wuh?

You'll end up watching nobody at this rate. You can't watch Rafa, now Federer. Why? He lost a third set tiebreak 14-12? And you call that humiliating? Seriously, you need to calm down. When two players enter the court, one of them loses. Usually it's not Fedal. So, they lost a few? Big deal. You stop watching them two and you just might have to skip watching the FO final... ;)

Djokovic is probably infuriated. With a field THIS WEAK in Madrid he wouldn't even have to make any serious effort to take the title. I hate to say it but now, the guy is not head and shoulders above everyone, he is floating above them and laughing. He should really punish the "GOATS" this season, and I don't even like the guy.

It's been the least viewed final by me going back to Borg/Orantes! That kind of tennis just isn't watchable for me for the most part! If I like the result, I might catch the last set of a match! Since it's been "Breakfast in Paris" since '84, I tend to just wake half way through and judge whether to sit down and record it! Haven't seen much of any of those Nadal/Federer matches with all the stalling, toweling off, and other ways to drag the matches out; 'cept that one shellacking I guess! If Nole gets to the final against someone else, I'll consider getting up early to watch his triumph! If Nadal's there too, I'll wait to hear what happened! In a lot of ways, I'm still recovering from their AO in 2012; wore me out and still feeling it after all this time! :p :nono
