I hope this event gave Nick some greater feel for wanting to win and enjoying the sport. It's said he doesn't work out in the gym, though, and it may be why he gets injured so often. Maybe JMac got to whisper a lot of useful things into his ear.

Mac was riding Nick hard yesterday during his match with Berdych..Nick attitude seem to change when the other team members came down closer to the court to garner their support.

I have no problem with Rahm Emanuel. His bro is Ari though is an arrogant, egotistical POS. Jeremy Piven on Entourage at least got that mcuh right...

ChiTown's not too far from me...I'm seriously considering going as well...
Ask Kskate about his honor..he is duece bag

I like the overall format of the tournament. But, I don't like the super tie breaker business. I wish they play full three sets when needed in individual matches.

Do you realize just how Crazy you sound..why do you have to be a Debbie Downer about everything..

This post just illustrates how your mind works or doesn't work as the case may be. I posted a sarcastic comment and you take it seriously. Below again for all to see. I mean seriously?! WTF?

It's clear from the interaction between Roger and Rafa there's a genuine friendship there

I do like it. Even though, or maybe because it favors the upset. But more because it's new in the singles game, and they're looking to be innovative. Also, they're looking to speed up the game. (Though I don't want them to adopt it for the regular tour...gawd forbid!) And let's just be frank: there's less wear and tear on these players, who want to have fun, play some good tennis, but don't really want to wear themselves out for more serious tennis to come. That's always been a bit of a thing with Davis Cup: best of 5, and 4x/year, potentially. I wonder what effect this tournament will have on DC, since there is a lot of talk about what to do about that format.

I agree. They've always been mutually respectful, and they're not really such different people, off of the court. Plus, they're pretty knitted together, in history. Kinda like Borg and McEnroe. It was good to see the balance in all the players between playing to win and having fun. (In a previous post I gave @Busted to believe that I thought they'd scripted it. I don't, really. But it did come off for maximum drama, which has something to do with the format, and the fact that Sock is an excellent doubles player.)

I felt bad for him for a heartbeat. BUT...he volunteered to player Roger in the team meeting so I got over my sympathy for him pretty quickly. LOL! He clearly likes the team format though. He just needs to find a way to transfer that same energy and passion to ALL of his singles matches.

Unfortunately I don't have much time to debate the whole event, but I'll give my two cents on this: For me this is further proof Kyrgios has his head on the right place. He knows somehow his style of play allows him to have competitive matches with Federer -- history shows that, and Federer was visibly playing bellow his AO/IW/Miami hard court level. So he had a chance there. He sensed an opportunity and had the guts to raise his hand, the others didn't. And he got pretty close to pulling it out. He was beaten out of the inconsistency of his ground game (he was the first to miss in a handful of important rallies on both tie-breakers). Some may say some UFE´s cost him, but so did Federer's (double faults and netted backhands on the match tie-break). The day he stops listening to all the "talent" bullshit and starts working on his main deficiencies, he gets real close to multi-major territory.

Kyrgios himself has said he doesn't work out in a gym - he plays basketball and other sports. That's part of his problem - playing basketball. He wants to know why his knees are hurting all the time? HELLO! Basketball is hell on the knees. Just give Kobe and Jordan a call. He definitely needs a more structured physical training routine and not just because of the strength training. It also teaches patience and discipline - two things Kyrgios is badly in need of. Federer said when he was younger he didn't understand why he needed to do the gym work either. Then again - he meant when he was 16 not when he was 22 and it was abundantly clear WHY you need to go to the gym and have a trainer to be an elite professional athlete.

Oh, don't get me wrong - I have no problem with Kyrgios WANTING to be the guy to play Roger in a big match with everything on the line. Good on him. I'm sure Tiafoe would have been the next guy to volunteer after how close his US Open match was. BUT, what I was really getting at is that Kyrgios has to find a way to transfer his desire to showboat on the big stage against the biggest names to lesser players on the side courts - or center court. If he wants to get a woody thinking about taking out the GOAT on center court at an event Roger helped organize - then good for him, but stop expecting those matches to drop into his lap without doing the hard work to earn them. Stop mentally clipping his toenails during matches with #72 on court 14 and tanking because he's bored. Look at the Cincy final against Dimitrov. WTF was that mess? No way he should have lost to Dimitrov who's like the low rent version of Federer. He had a Sunday final center court match in a 1000 event - but his opponent wasn't a big enough name for him to give his best like he did in the Nadal match 2 days before. Had that been Federer and not Dimitrov he'd have left his right kidney on the court trying to win. If he stopped tanking early rounds he could raise his ranking so that he doesn't have to play Federer/Nadal/Djokovic in early rounds. Wouldn't he enjoy it so much more if he was playing Federer/Nadal/Djokovic on SF Saturday - or Sunday for the title rather than winning in Round 3 on a Thursday and the losing the final to a guy he should beat pretty handily? I guess I'm just baffled by his thinking. It's like he's playing just to prove he can beat 3 of the all-time greats and NOT because he wants to win tournaments\Slams and BECOME an all-time great. He seems to have set a pretty low bar for himself and considering how talented - and yes, entertaining - he is that's very disappointing to see. But...he is still only 22, so I"m not writing him off. If he's still got this attitude in another year or two though I think it's fairly safe to say he'll never change and never realize his potential.

I actually like the super tie-breakers. It kept the matches from dragging on too long. They had 4 matches every day a lot of them went the distance. I think 3 regular sets would have made for a really long day not just for the players but the fans. It made the 3rd set more like a shoot out and kept outcomes from being too predictable.

LOL! It's douche bag not "duece bag." Given that his brother is a major jackass I have no problem believing Rahm Emanuel is a douche bag. I just said I had no problem with him. Two different things...
