Happy Anniversary @MargaretMcAleer. Hope you had an enjoyable day. What's the latest news down under regarding the pandemic? Will Aus open up for tourists soon? Do you know what restrictions are in place for cruise ships that depart from Aus?
Thanks Kskate yes hubby and I had a great meal.We are still closing our borders internationally., there is no word as yet from our Prime Minister when they will open. Also there is a bad outbreak from India at the moment and we are not accepting any travellers from India into Australia. At the moment there are cruise ships travelling around Australia.

Thanks MM for the quick response. Do you know if they are treating fully vaccinated people differently?

No idea sorry.,we here in Australia have just started with vaccinations, front line workers first and then older age groups,it has been a slow process.I know that our international carrier Qantas has said that people will have to show their COVID certificates before being allowed to fly international, whenever that will be.

A tight match between Martic v Pegula....with Petra winning the 1st set 75...glad to see Petra playing well in Rome, maybe it is her new coach Francesca Schiavone a RG champion that has made the difference to her game at present.

Martic d Pegula 75 64....Jess has had a solid tournament making the q/finals.Well done Petra!

I am off to work soon on night shift I will record the rest of the q/final matches.

Good to hear that it a small tear. I would think it would be prudent to skip the dirt and try to get to percent for the grass

What the hell happened in the Barty/Gauff match?. I'm looking at the match and turn away to do some computer work and leading 6-4, 2-1 I see Barty withdrew from the match......

ETA: Apparently Barty had a recurring arm injury and didn't want to risk continuing under the heavy wet conditions...... Still puzzled why the mens matches were suspended during the rain and yet the women started playing again under the exact same conditions.. Kind of ticked the WTA made the women play if it was that iffy, ie players safety.

Ash right arm is a pre-existing issued that she has managed for years.,the pain got worse as the match progressed.Ash listened to her body and she decided to retire, also with RG not being far away,I feel it was the right decision.,these heavy wet conditions did not help her right arm.
Gauf will move onto the s/finals.

Remaining matches have been cancelled for Friday due to the wet weather.

The remaining match Swiatek v Svitolina cancelled.I assume this match will be played first up Saturday, with suitable rest for the winner, then have to play the s/final,the weather conditions for the weekend in Rome are good, thank goodness. When the officials put up the match schedule for Saturday I will post.

Wise decision on Ash's part. Not worth risking RG at this point. She's been having such a good year.

It was very hard to track what was going on, between watching replays during the day, trying to get other things done, then seeing some intermittent live action. They did bring back Novak and Stefanos. What I heard was that they were trying to continue matches that had already started, but cancelling matches that had not yet commenced. Hard to be clear if they had the women out there when the didn't have the men out, but it would be interesting to know.

Ash Barty,

"I hate pulling out of a match halfway through. It's not in my makeup, not what I like to do,but it was really important today that I listen to what my body was telling me".

Impressive 1st set from Iga Swiatek 62 over Elina Svitolina, the best I have seen her play all clay tournaments so far,
Tighter 2nd set though Iga gets the job done over the 5th seed Elina Sviolina 62 75....well done Iga you are into your first s/final in Rome, rest up and wait for your opponent in the s/final.
