This 2023 Roland Garros will be the first time, without Rafa or Roger since 1998
That means a person could be 25 years old, and it had never happened in their lifetime? It's funny to think of this era ending, because, frankly, it has lasted way longer than anyone would have predicted.

It all seems strategic to me. "I take it when it's early in the set." So that's when he feels the pain and later not? C'mon. He takes it when he is losing, that's how I see it. Did similar thing against Novak in QF and we will see more of it..

Holger in one of his last tourneys actually took a MTO when he was ahead 0-30 on his opponents service game, which potentially would break up his own game momentum.

I think its common sense that many players on a regular basis play through chronic ailments/injuries/pain. Do they feel it more when losing? I would think so ( I probably would) In contrast , I’d rather play through pain if I have the big M my way and winning, but if Im trailing why not take a MTO if it could help me. That it could disrupt my opponent’s rhythm is a side benefit.

Whether players are actually faking it and have no aiments is another matter but its not shocking to me more MTO’s are taken when someone is behind in a match.

Sidenote: Casper Ruud, if you’re going to take an extended bathroom break, for goodness sake change your shorts, his sweat made it look like he had a very messy “accident”. ; )

Just reading comments from Casper Ruud on the MTO taken by Rune for a shoulder problem,
Ruud was leading by a set and a break, before Rune took a MTO, before Ruud's next service game it appeared to throw Ruud's rhythm as lost his serve twice en route to surrendering his serve in the 2nd set and ultimately the match?

" I would like to think not but I dont know" said Ruud on the question of whether Rune's MTO had been tactical.

Daniil Medvedev has now reached the final of 7/9 Masters events throughout his career. He was 4/9 in this stat at the beginning of the year.

Casper Ruud was happy with his performance in Rome, where he earned his best Masters 1000 result of the season. I played some good matches, got some good wins. Hopefully I can build on this further. Ruud will play clay tournament in Geneva before Roland Garros

What a load of crap. He was ahead 3-2 when Rune took the MTO. After that Ruud won his servicegame with ease and had two breakpoints in Runes serve. Then he made two cholossum errors in his next servicegame so he lost it and the set. And after that he held his serve easely in the first game of the third set. It had nothing to do with the mto.

That is your opinion, Ruud who was actually playing the match has a right to his own opinion, and thoughts, the media would not of asked him the question in the first place if there was some ' cloud around' Holger taking a tactical MTO,, my commies also thought the same thing, they all cant be wrong or can they. Holger has been taking a lot of MTO of late in his matches, as I suggested he needs to find another trainer, for fitness and strength, it appears his shoulder always needs attention, then after he receives a MTO it seems to do the trick

I do think we shall see some 'drama' in the men's final lol!. In Rune's match he called for a trainer when he was down a set and a break to Capser Ruud ( some call it gamesmanship to disrupt his opponents rhythm, my commies said it was a MTO tactic)
While Meddy was up to his own tricks he tried to convince Mo to pause his match after his opponent broke him to make it 4 all in the 1st set lol!
Which ever umpire gets this gig, good luck!

Pete was great. I probably miss Pete more than I’ll miss Rafa…
NAH. Pete to me was extremely extraordinarily. Rafa's lived his career is almost like a real tennis God. He faced and defeated everyone including Roger and Novak in their prime. When it comes down to it for me who would I want to play the one match with my family's well being at stake, when I was a kid it would have been Pete but now that I am a full grown man who has raised my own children, no doubt in my mind, it's Rafa .IMO

Well that’s true but there was something about the way Pete went about his business that I like, and still like in his retirement. He just walked away, didn’t look for further accolades, further glory. He praises the Big 3 generously. I remember years ago he called Rafa ‘a beast’ and it was in the most complimentary sense. But Pete on his day was the most efficient, economic champ of them all. No fuss, no muss! Painting lines so predictably that the uninitiated called him boring. Didn’t allow anybody to get close enough to be a real historical threat. I think if he’d had a Rafa’s or Novak or Roger pushing him, he’d have found the desire to play for longer.

But you raise a good question! The tennis player to fight for our water against an invading force of tennis loving aliens would be Rafa, if we could play on clay. And Pete if it was on his fast 90’s grass. Could be any number of players on hard or indoor…

You do remember that Ruud took a toiletbreak after losing the 2nd set. Was that to ruin Runes rhytm too then? And that's not cheating. Who is biased now...
I really think that Ruud needs a psykological trainer if someone taking a mto ruins his rhythm.

Meddy will not be allowed to play the mad Russian act to try to distract Holger. He will have to be on his Best Rafa and Novak facing behavior to beat this Man child, IMO.

Yeah I think you’re right. Players have to handle this stuff, especially when the match has begun to turn against them. And with Ruud, as fine a shot maker that he is, he’s not savvy enough to stay calm in this situation, just like he’s not really savage enough to streetfight with players who are ruthless. Rune reminds me of these tough street kids you sometimes see in a strange city and you think, okay, don’t catch the little bastard’s eye! :lulz1:

This one is an interesting mix, because Medvedev is mentally strong enough to bite back, but I wonder will his clay phobia raise it’s ugly head when things get tense?

That's the thing, players are taking advantage of the rule, be it Rune, Novak or anyone else, players are exploiting it while they can, same was with a bathroom break. I feel like they need to have stricter rules for the MTO beacuse players will always tend to have them when they are behind.

As for Ruud, yeah he looked like he went out of toilet paper hahaha.
