Very close and entertaining match. All quarters are straight sets, but Nole-Tsonga is closest, by both score and points. Any surprised?

I had company come over and am going to sit down and watch it now. Jo has the ability to power through Nole, just like Wawrinka. It's not surprising that it was close. Looking forward to seeing what happened.

Looking forward to Novak vs. Rafa. Hopefully it will be more competitive than the last five matches, which not only did Novak win all of, but he didn't drop a set. So consider this: Novak's won their last 11 sets. You have to go back to 2014 Roland Garros to see a Rafa-won set and match.

Let's just put it this way - I made plans to shampoo my carpet during that match. Ahem. No offense to Uncle Toni and the new strings...:lolz: The only question is I have is - Does Nole get as "up" to play Nadal in a semi as he does Fed? He'll probably be able to coast through and still win.

^ Not true, I just said he played well if you read above. My only issue was celebrating like he'd won a slam for winning a quarter final against a guy who didn't even play well. If they both played lights out and it came down to 16-14 in a 3rd set TB then maybe a big celebration would be ok but it was a whatever performance by Nishikori and he only won a quarter final match and will likely lose the semi to Novak. So why exactly the crazy celebration is warranted I don't know. I find it embarrassing to watch celebrations like that unless the guy won a tournament and only by beating a top opponent.

I feel the same way; "act like you been there before!" The match the other day against Zverev made him look even worse; "you beat an unseeded 18 y.o. Nadal!" What an idiot! All that pumping up and jumping around! :cover

Oh gimme a well earned break, lads! This ole hoary chestnut. "Ugh, I'm disgusted by this disgusting behaviour! Ugh. Fella celebrated as if he actually cared. Um. It's wrong!"

Cry me a fricking river! :cry :Nono :cover :ras: :dodgy:

If Rafa cured cancer and brought food to the starving masses, they'd moan about him scratching his arse... :ras:

Hot temps today in the desert, ball should be bouncing high, Rafa should attack Djoker fh and refused to give up the center of the court , attack Djokovic 2nd serves and beware of the drop shots , make Djoker uncomfortable

He's more likely to give people cancer than cure them of it with that stale ass jam on his hands :p And btw Fiero and I are clearly the only two who find it embarrassing to watch a guy jump in the air like he's won a slam when he only won a quarter final against a guy who didn't even play well. Actually, no I lied. We're not :s

Seems they changed the time of this match. 1.5 hours later now at least and we have to watch Snouty versus Marty McFly first.

Yeah, but you and Fiero are the only ones who are utterly prejudiced against Nadal, no matter what he does. Actually, no I lied. You're not.

Fact is, he was celebrating a big win in getting to the semis at IW. You're all so quick to slag and slate him and bellow your gloating when he lost in the two claycourt events, and now when he's showing signs of improvement and winning tight matches or beating good players, you fish around for something stupid to criticise. It shows a very poor mentality...

He beat an 18 year old who choked badly and should have won his match and Nishikori was flat out poor and yet he celebrates wildly when he wins and that's not embarrassing? It is to most considering it was a quarter final and the opponent didn't even play well. As I said yesterday if Nishikori actually played well and it came down to a very close 3rd set TB then fair enough some sort of celebration would be acceptable. But not the display we saw yesterday when his opponent wasn't even good.

Btw I'd be saying the same about any top player but fact is not many of them celebrate like this after winning a quarter final to a guy who didn't even play well.

No one is forcing you to like the guy, nor respect him but try putting yourself in his shoes. From tournament to tournament, absolute mugs and journeymen play you like their life depends on it and he has already had all kinds of losses this year. You win against a top player who beat you 6:2, 6:4 just a few months back. And you know that Rafa is an energetic guy, he has to be pumped up to play well.

Of course you'd find embarrassing ways to denigrate his wins. "Ugh, an 18 year old who choked." But Rafa didn't choke, came back and won, which is what he wasn't doing in the small clay swing.

Credit where it's due.

And then Nishi, who you all loved so much when he beat rafa last year, of course now you're going to act as if it was a foregone conclusion, and not because rafa was the better man, but because Nishi was "flat out poor." No credit to Rafa at all? :dodgy:

Give credit where it's due!

His celebration is "acceptable" because he wanted to celebrate a big win that way. That's his choice and it's not like a celebration like this can be ever unacceptable. That view itself is unacceptable. It's sports, he won, and he celebrated. It's a huge relief to him to be reaching the semis here. It's a big win for him after a season of blowouts. It's perfectly acceptable and understandable that he celebrate it. It's just for people like you, who insult him and slag him no matter what he does, it's even more unacceptable that he won. Can you criticise him for winning? Of course not, so you stupidly criticise him for something as innocuous as a celebration of the win, FFS... :cover
