Wow, I've just was reading some comments in Tennis.com and you can tell that Rafa is playing better, now not just are the Roger's fans but also the Novak's fans posting the most crazy comments. I don't know why the are showing to be so worry, Rafa is not playing his best yet so Novak is still safe :D
Long time that I was not checking that blog because I considerer that many posters are horrible and low class (though there also some good ones and with a lot of tennis knowledge) the moderators are also a joke

How is it so wrong? Carol didn't say "if Rafa plays the way he's been playing all year." She said, "If Rafa plays well."

No need to be so contrarian with everything Rafa fans say, my friend. Especially not on Paddy's Day when you could be sinking Guinness and flashing that famous smile... :celeb:

Ok, I'll say why. Firstly let me just say the surface is too slow for Nishikori anyway so I don't expect him to win regardless. We saw how Djokovic destroyed him on the dog slow courts at the WTF and this is worse here. But on any other halfway fast court Nishikori has a very good chance of beating Nadal in any form. Have you seen Nishikori's level when he plays well? He makes slam finals when he plays well. He destroys Nadal at Madrid when he plays well, he's a very tough match up for Novak when he's playing well and on a medium/fast surface. So there's very little reason to think he can't beat Nadal when he can beat Novak who is a better player.

Nishikori's serve is very erratic, either very good or very bad but her post makes it sound like all that has to happen is for one guy, namely Nadal, to play well to decide the outcome. That's nonsense talk if anyone who has been watching the tennis the past few years has witnessed how good Nishikori can be when he himself also plays "well". What if he serves great as he can on occasion and blasts Nadal off the court whenever he hits short balls, which is quite often by the way. He hits a ton more winners, is a very fast guy and takes the ball extremely early and plays very like Davydenko in that respect and in how easily he can change the direction of the ball. And we all know Davydenko's record against Nadal. Saying it doesn't matter how Kei plays if Nadal plays well as I said is so wrong on so many levels it shows utter ignorance of the last few years for anyone who has followed tennis properly.

See your second sentence in the post, where you say you don't expect Kei to win? Would it be a stretch of the imagination to say that you actually agree with Carol? I think not. :popcorn

See the rest of it? It's full of factual strangeness. For example: "Have you seen Nishikori's level when he plays well? He makes slam finals when he plays well."

So...he's played well only once?

Let's turn it around: "Have you seen Nadal's level when he plays well? He's made 20 slam finals playing well, he's won 14, he's the record holder of MS titles, and he's won IW three times."

You get my drift. :popcorn

And shame on you about Guinness :popcorn

Nadal is well past his prime so him playing well is below Nishikori playing well at this stage. He's played well way more than once clearly, I gave multiple examples above for starters. It'd be a major stretch to say I agree 'cos I said I don't expect him to win on this slow court but her reasons for determining the winner mean nothing when one guy is pushing 30 and well past his prime and the other guy has youth on his side and is a much more aggressive player and faster around the court.

I agree. Kei isn't playing well in general despite the TN title. I think Nadal wins the match.

I hope Monfils wins, although I have nothing against Raonic. It's just that I have given up expectations that Monfils will take winning seriously enough to beat good players sometimes.

Monfils begins this match playing extremely sloppy.. I am going switch back to the NCAA basketball tournament

I finally got around to watching about half of the Wawrinka\Goffin match from yesterday and I'm still trying to figure out - as I have been for years - exactly how Stan decides if he's going to show up or not. Maybe it's during the coin toss? Or perhaps on the break between games? Whatever it is - the only thing consistent about him is his inconsistency. I couldn't help but contrast this match with Goffin to the way Fed handled Goffin at the Aussie - which was a little like watching someone's big brother sit on their head and fart. Stan needs to learn to go into these matches with say...a game plan. Silly idea, I know. But, come on. Just get the job done in the quickest manner possible - and get the heck out of Dodge!

Milos Raonic defeats Gael Monfils 7-5, 6-3. Comprehensive win.
He will play Goffin in the SF, who also eliminated in 2 sets Marin Cilic, who was horrible on converting BP opportunities.

I know Gael lost the match but I still feel that he is a superior tennis talent to Milos. However, I was wrong and congrats to Milos

He's far superior talent, but a far inferior match player...

I don't know about "far". Serve is also part of the tennis curriculum, and it takes talent to be a good server, let me tell you that much.
Overall I agree that Monfils is the most natural player and you can also label as talented, but that is not the lone contributor to the end result.
Lesser gifted players can be better tacticians, thinkers and harder workers. Milos worked obviously on his weaknesses and it shows. His ROS has improved to that extent that he in most cases is able to break his opponents, winning the sets less and less on TB. he had only one here at IW in 4 matches so far and he has not lost a set.
This will be a big year for him, and if he plays like he can, he will be back in the top 5.
