OK. Good. :popcorn

I am cancelling some other appointment to watch Ralph get beaten up by Roger. So, If Ralph withdraws, I will be very angry and report to the Commissioner of Tennis.

Haha. I was mostly joking. Mostly.
As a "joke," it's old and tired. And even you say you weren't really joking. You're not that unkind of a person. Leave the trolling to those who really mean it. :smooch:

As my role in the universe seems to be disagree with people, here we go:

1) I disagree that the score line would be that much different if Nadal were 100%, because he was moving perfectly in set 1, and both sets had exactly the same score, even the points in the TB and the number of serve breaks.

2) On one hand, yes, Kachanov's serve kept him in some serve games, but it was not just that, because on the other Kachanov's poor net game cost him a load of points, a lot of them quite important, including a set point. He held his own in a lot of rallies. The match was competitive in a lot of senses and the main reason Nadal won was that he played better on the important points (as usual for him).

3) I disagree with narrative that KK has a low tennis IQ. People were saying this repeatedly during the match after Nadal got hurt. First, very few players are able to distinctively change their approach. Kachanov's game is based on his heavy spining forehand a newly developed (and much falter) back hand that he hits hard crosscourt and with good precision DTL. He does those things 120872874 times better than the rest, so it is not straightforward for him to change. Also, he did (after a while) started to use some drop shots. Actually there was nothing much different he could do, as Nadal was moving laterally quite decently until the last two games. The problem was really going forward.

Last but not least, Nadal adapted to the situation, started to run much more risk and it payed off.

What I think a lot of non-Rafa fans don't appreciate is that Nadal can play with a lot of pain. He's a very committed player. If he was lesser, he probably did take KK apart because he could. Something for Khachanov to ruminate over, as he moves up the ladder.

Yes, he can play with a lot of pain. But if he is really hurting, he can't beat an in-form Roger (or Novak) and I wouldn't be surprised if he withdrew because of it. Not unlike Roger withdrew at the ATP Finals a few years ago when he was hurting...he knew he didn't have a chance against Novak. I mean, if Rafa was facing a lesser player, he would give it a go, but at this point in their careers there is so much spotlight and I think he would only play if he thought he had a legit chance of winning.

Well, it is just my sense of humor. I like satire, darkish humor, and meta-humor...the type of stuff that is tinged with a grain of truth, but grossly exagerrated. Think Louis CK, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld, the Onion, etc.

None of those people would truck in such a tired trope that's not actually a joke. What you said was neither funny, nor "meta", nor clever. It was just mean. If you actually want to make a joke, I know you're more interesting and funny than that.

why are all the big matches of rafa and federer on really early ?. 11am federer was on today , or 1130am

thought the marquee matches were usually later for evening tv or to keep more fans onsite all day..thus spending money..

even with a mixed m/f line up it still seems odd. was it like this last year ?.

I've been ripped off by Tennis Channel. They said they'd show the Rafa/KK match delayed, now they don't show it at all. Sorry to grumble.

The only reason he didn’t play was Davis Cup mate. Neither Roger or Rafa would do that to a finals crowd

Tennis atp.com saying that nadal just had knee soreness, and he still plans to play against federer No just withdraw and beat him on clay.

It really depends on how well his knee responds to the anti immflamitories if his knees are pain free and he is able to gain flexibility.than he will play..if not no need to risk further injures and but the first phase of the clay season in jepordy. Imo
