I didn't know you're a girl nor where you are (nothing on your profile) but females make the majority of Rafa's fans. Now I know & can guess well where you're as you're going to sleep (US closer to E coast rather than W). Of course going to sleep is not the everyone's order of things : I just finished my lunch at work and caught up on this thread and now back to work! You can guess easily where I am without even looking at my profile.:)

This post is all kinds of creepy :p

Del potro seems the only one that can beat federer in this event, thats like 15 matches, in a row federer won. but its just like I said worst India wells in a long time No strong players aside federer.

So Delpo can beat Roger, but other than Roger there are no strong players in the tournament?

Makes a lot of sense.

Just before I go to bed. Are you trying to denigrate this tournament because you're mimicking Busted, as that's her favorite thing against Rafa, or because you're a twat? It's been a perfectly enjoyable tournament, IMO. Well, except that Roger's still in. But what with the rise of Coric and even Fritz, Chung, del Potro in good form...I think it's been worthwhile. At this point in time, anyone who denigrates a tournament because most or all of the Big 4 is missing doesn't understand men's tennis. :approved

I'll guess you from Australia. Women don't make up the majority of Rafa fans. Funny that you think that. This is sport, and the majority of fans are men.

Hey, don't bring me into this. I haven't even been around in a couple of days. And...at least get it right - my "favorite thing against Rafa" is that he can only occasionally win non-clay court tournaments. Roger spotted Nadal 5 clay events last year (and 4,680 points!) - and still managed to end the year within striking distance of #1. The weak field comment was made about the 2017 US Open and I stand by that. I freely admitted the same was true of Roger's AO win this year as well. So, no offense, but if you're going to throw me under the bus - could you at least make sure it's the right bus? Thanks.

Interesting. Roger beat Chung going away. Somehow I expected a tougher test given the slower court. Starting to look like no one stops him here

I think it's the right bus. You have said how much the 2017 USO was "essentially a 250" so many times that I was going to suggest you give it it's own thread. That way you wouldn't have to type it again, and I wouldn't have to read it again. You could just give it a *bump.* This put ol' nadal2goat onto the same denigration train. The ATP is in a period of change, and lots of top players are on the injured-reserve. If we judge all of the top tournaments right now by who's out, then they all look a bit fallow. Or, we can look at who's coming up, which is exciting. Yes, Roger, and Rafa have been there to take some advantage, but others will as well. There will be times like these. Looking down our noses at them is not interesting, only small and partisan. Seeing who flowers up from the peat is.

Understand tennis well thank very much, I just like then you don't know WHO's going to win the event, and its not just the big four being missing, its the matches that I I'm talking about. But its a fact the event would have been way better with Nadal, Murray Wawrinka, and the matches as well, seeing the next gen players do well I agree its been awesome to watch. But there is something missing?;):yesyes:

Lol! Thought you were going to bed?

In all seriousness I agree. We can’t dismiss a tournament just because some big players are missing. That’s definitely a factor which can influence overall quality. But you actually have to watch the tennis first before forming a conclusion

No see you cherry picking that say that I meant was there is no one as strong as federer, del potro not on federer level at the moment but could still beat him if federer a little off.

You could say that about virtually every tournament mate. What’s the point of that?

Every player you mention is over 30. They'll be permanently missing soon enough. Just because we could count on a status quo in men's tennis for many years in the past, doesn't mean that that is or should be the norm. We have to stop acting like we're "owed" all of these great players, tournament in, tournament out. There was a long, halcyon period, but I don't think that's the norm. They get hurt, they get old, they get burnt out, and, because these great and middle-great players all did so well for so long, they're all seeming to break down at once, in varying degrees. However this shakes out, it doesn't seem like we're destined to see the same 16 players in the QFs in big events anymore.

watched a bit of the Federer - Chung match now. I have to say Chung impresses me more and more. One thing he does better than Novak already is come forward and volley better. Obviously not in Novak's league either as a returner or side to side player and will probably never be. But he could certainly improve his serve a bit. I definitely think this kid has got great potential. We might laugh in a few years at how much stock we put in Zverev when this guy was also around. I'm not saying that's going to be how it goes, but this guy definitely has game. That forehand of his can be a bit slappy though, but he's the sort of guy that has such good footwork you don't really expect his game to break down much. What I most like is that I don't think this guy will be the sort of attritional player Novak is. He does superficially look like Novak, but with an inherently more attacking mindset from what I can see

Perfect guess: yes I am in Australia.
I don't know why I had that impression, because there are no official stats classifying fans by sex or age or other such measure. I admit I may have been wrong.

What's wrong with Roger being in? Remember when you used to criticize everyone for strongly rooting against Nads? Bottom half looks interesting to me this tourney, I think Koleslaw run ends here but the other three could make the final.

I sense an upset looming in the Kohlschreiber x del Potro match.
