Partly the match up, but Roger starting to hit his strokes better. Quite like this Krajinovic. I remember him from the Paris Masters last year. He seems quite workman like, and for some reason reminds me of Bautista-Agut

Yep. I'm still waiting for a good technical explanation of why this is. Bad footwook, is there a glare on his contacts, is he just crappy at judging vertical distances, bad technique? How do you get to be #1 in the world and can't put away probably 50% of overheads? What gives?

Your observation seems to be generally shared here: Novak can have very "rusty" and inefficient game when things do not "click" for him on a given day. Cerainly not as "graceful" as Roger's, especially in defeat.
However, I remember Novak can overcome those moments and turn around a crappy match into a win. I remember some 3-4 years back when he was on top, the first of his big matches against Stan in AO. He was visibly frustrated, blaming his shoes for his poor footwork, gesturing at his box to bring him shoe replacement (they did and it helped), blaming his contcts fog, etc. Very unprofessional behaviour, not to mention not worthy #1 player! Yet he overcame that emotional tantrum and came back winning that big match which is what is mostly remembered.
Not so now. He's likely to be better at the next tourney becase he loves the game and is physically capable but it's probably safe to say his mentalily is far less mature than that of the rest of big guys. Just like the worst side of Nick Kyrgios, only not directing his tantrums at the judges/audience but keeping it to himself and unable to relieve it, it destroys him from inside. Needless to say, the sporsors will turn away from such player and shower a "graceful" player like Roger with their money. Roger's endorsements were always far bigger than Novak's, even at the times when the latter was dominatng the game and Roger slumped into #3-4.
Tennis is a stressful sport on the top and you must learn how deal with the stress on court, Novak definitely has to improve on it, provided he's not to old for the improvement required.

That was crazy easy. Hadn't even realised that he's unbeaten for the year

Lot better performance today by Roger. Takes out Krajinovic 6-2, 6-1 in under an hour. Positive differential of 25 winners to 10 UFE.
But, got broken once.

Next up, Jeremy Chardy ranked 100. H2H is 3-1. Also, Fed will now get a day of rest before the next match.

Chef Boy Chardy up next. Must have been a nice performance from Fed, won 10 of the last 11 games.

I like your avatar. Accordingly, to live to it, your should pay more attention to what Fed is up to. And indeed, he's 14-0 so far this year and going from strength to strength. I really wonder who is gonna finally stop him, all big guys already missing or out of IW. Need to wait for Cilic or Delpo in the final? Or we need to wait for the next tourney?

I’m actually worried about Fed facing Anderson. Hoping for Kicker to win that match although that is unrealistic.

Are you really worried about Anderson?

I'm about as worried about Roger playing Anderson this year as I was in 2015 when they played in Cincy. I'm pretty sure Anderson is still having SABR nightmares. Anderson probaby had Italian for dinner that night since Roger gave him a couple of free breadsticks for lunch.. They've played 4 times and Anderson has only broken Roger 1 time - and he lost that match because Roger broke him 3 times. All told Anderson is 1-for-7 in break chances while Roger is 14-for-33. They played in IW in 2014 and Roger won that match 7-5, 6-1. Sure, he could have a bad day and lose...but I doubt it.

Domi retires down 4-2 in the decider

So much for his claim that he was trying to turn the corner on hard courts. And another one bites the dust... Dimitrov, Zverev, Thiem. All history in IW. Who's next - Cilic, Sock, Anderson or DelPo? My money's on Sock...

Fed may face Bird in QF. Bird has the ability to stop Fed. Whether he will actually do is another matter. Bird almost stopped Fed in Miami last year. Needless to say Bird has defeated Fed few times and that too on big stages.

I barely finished my post and Bird is struggling. Chung won the first set. Let us see what happens.

He's gone in straights! What was all this talk about a match between him and Roger? :lol3:  :ptennis:
Wow, so Chung is the last guy to potentially prevent Fed from reaching the semi in IW and holding his #1? I assume Chung without blisters, who will be a different opponent than the one in AO.
All big, even medium top-20 names are gone! That's a serious opening in Fed's draw, the outcome perhaps no one anticipated, and even the old man himself, including his entourage, never expected to be blessed with.
Luck happens to help the best players in both short term (i.e net cord) or medium term (draw resolves) or long term (ease of ranking defense) to unbelievable proportions.

He twisted his ankle still in the first set, playing decent tennis, so we can cut him some slack.

Chung played fine but Berdych was visibly slower, a lot of balls he could run after he let go, etc. Not his usual self for sure.
