Sock hasn't ever really impressed me much, nice heavy forehand but doesn't move well enough and nothing with the backhand. Roger didn't serve great today but Sock never threatened to break

^That's a good point. Feel like it worked against him against Novak a few times

It's strange really, Sock can move well. But I think when he's nervous he just forgets the basics of his game

What time is the final starting tomorrow?

My guide says 2:00 pm, EDT! History says this will be a bore so it won't be on my "must see" list! The women should be more entertaining; 2 more veterans! :clap - - - http://fiero4251.blogspot.com/2016/08/fan-page-novak-nole-djokovic.html - - -

Might be odd to say, but I'll give the edge to Stan. Roger was right in the on court interview. Stan might have learnt something from that AO semi. He started to hit freely and blew Roger off the court for two sets. If he just says screw it and goes for it, it could be really tough for Federer

Aside from maybe clay I don't think I'd ever really give Stan the edge over Federer. With that said Stan definitely played the better match today but tomorrow is a different day and Roger presents him with a lot of problems obviously. It is a decent court for Stan against Roger as it's slow and that helps him vs. Fed and pretty much everyone on tour.

Sock didn't sense that Roger was having trouble with his game in the second set. Roger's first serve % had fallen and he was having trouble with Sock's serve and aggression. Sock was going for it irrespective of the point. He was the better player in the second set but still managed to lose it.

That's one of my concerns. He just rips it Roger's going to have to serve out of a tree

Every time I surfed by the match, Sock was being tactically wrong; bad court positioning and not taking the volleying game to the old guy! What's the purpose of playing doubles if you're afraid to come into the net more? Sock was too far back and just allowed Federer to direct the action! Sock has a little more "game" than the other top US players, but he still has brain farts :blowup which allows Roger to get thru to the final unscathed! :nono :cover

UPDATE: Since both matches today were "duds," ESPN has 2 hours of time to fill! They're replaying the end of Kuzzy's match vs Plisky and will probably use most of the time for Fedal reprise! :nono :cover

roger is aging so WELL. isn't he? amazing really. tennis would just have such a huge hole when he finally calls it quits.

really? i remember you can't stand the sight of such vastly overrated player who just got lucky in all of his career

Sock seems to be solidifying as a "third tier" type - in the Goffin, Almagro vein: hanging out in the 11-30 range, with occasional dips into the top 10. I can't really see him doing more than that and becoming a regular in the top 10, but you never know. The #8-15ish range seems to be really densely packed these days, so it would be hard for Sock to break through that.

oh here we go.....again

I caught the tail end of the second set and what I saw was Roger hitting the first serves into the middle of the net, not even close to the top. That looked worrisome but I will assume it was just a poor stretch.

Congrats. A slam final and now a M1000 final. Not too shabby for the comeback kid.

Not pretty but we will take it. An underrated factor with Roger is he plays night matches at all these events up until the semis or finals. That works against him IMO
He said as much in the on-court interview. Tomorrow should be a good match. Obviously, I'm hoping Stan wins, as otherwise Roger takes the ranking slot above Rafa.

I haven't seen one match where you hope Roger wins, no bias you sure?

Well, this time I could not see the match, just the highlights (10 minutes, though). I see people saying Federer played not that well.

But things looks good, if by not playing well he beat one guy which is top20, 9 in the race and having the week of his life, all this without facing a break point.

Of course Wawrinka on a final always has a shot, but I am pretty confident Federer wins comfortably. The key thing here for me is that Federer faced much better competition through the week. Wawrinka will need some time to adjust, and by the time he does that he already would have lost the first set.

Who did Federer face that you think was playing better than Stan in this tournament? Not sure that Rafa would have been able to beat him
