Nadal. Dealt a loss to Milos! That's what he gets for being so defensive. Returning from Napa Valley is an absolute :nono

Must say I was most definitely not expecting that from Raonic and thought he'd play a dud final set. Very well played.

Actually, that wasn't a bad strategy from Nadal. The problem was execution during the 30-all service games.

But if you're not used to returning that aggressively, you can't just turn it on at 30-all and expect to be effective.

I couldn't even watch it; such an ugly match! I'm shocked, but happy! :cover :nono

Good win for Raonic but I have a good feeling Federer will handle him easily tomorrow.

As for Nadal, another one of those losses where he played well throughout most of the match but just can't capitalize on those break points and 30-all service games.

It looks like I was right, that miss forehand at 5-4 after winning a spectacular point costs him the set and the match. He was hitting ball pretty cleanly until that point where he hit the ball into the net.

Well, it looks like I have to wait another tournament where all of the Big 4 reach the semifinals sigh...

Well, I don't like Raonic very much but I'm very impressed with this performance, mentally more than anything.

What a baffling performance from Rafa though. His game was all there in the first set and a half and it's all just evaporated?

TennisFanatic, Nadal's game didn't evaporated at all, he just couldn't capitalize on Raonic's serve since the second set.

Can't remember one decent DTL forehand from Nadal in the final set and he had plenty of opportunities to hit at least a couple. First set he was bossing the rallies and forcing Milos into a ton of awkward backhands, drawing numerous errors, none of that at the end of set 2 or in set 3.

:snicker Milos just cashed Fed's ticket to the final. Obviously Rafa is not "back" yet.

I'm not sure that's fair to Milos. Thought he grew into the match. I think he took it away from Rafa in the end

I'm not so sure Novak wants to see Fed in a HC ATP event. He hasn't faired to well the last few times.

Indeed he did. He surprised the hell out of me with his composure at the end in the last 2 games.

Roger is one the best I have ever seen against the big serving plodders. It's actually fun to watch him dismantle them.

I agree with your points, TennisFanatic. I think Nadal should have use his DTL forehand more in the rallies towards the end of the sets 2 and 3. But the think is, other than his last service game, he was able to control the baseline rallies. The main problem was, and this is why I was super angry, he couldn't convert those chances he created in sets 2 and 3.

Part of it was Raonic saving those break points and pressure moments, but part of it was just Nadal missing easy shots.

So happy with Raonic's win. That second set tiebreak was a nail biter. Fed now has a chance to win his fifth title here.

The good thing is that looks like Nadal is starting to regain his tennis form and his confidence growing every single match.

The problem is that he still has that problem in which he plays well for a set and half but he just can't finish off opponents.

Three of his losses this year came after winning the first set of the match.

Well, it's not a big deal, according to many people Milos is playing better than ever and it's not the first time that he has beaten one of the top players. If he has won it means that he has played better than Rafa but the question is if he will play so well tomorrow because usually after to beat one of the top he leaves all the good serve and game on the court and the next day he can't serve and play so well (like Berdych) we already have seen it many times
But the good think for Rafa is that he has earned more points in this tournament and now he has plenty time to practice and be ready for Miami, everything has the bad but the good part too
I can imagine how relieved the Roger fans are now....lol :snicker :p

This is a slow hard court though. Novak definitely would have the edge if that's the final. Roger had a great chance in last year's final but it's tough for him against the Djoker on slow/medium paced surfaces.
