The last point of that TB was amazing. Roger went for an inside out forehand and it worked for him.

I hate Zverev so much. He would have crumbled very early if he played Murray or No2e, but against Federer he can always play 600% and literally doesn't miss first serves.
Zverev deserves to go to hell and his punishment would be to play peak Nadal at Roland Garros for eternity. And the faster he hits, Rafa's defence just becomes better.

In all seriousness though, awful match from Fed. Too many bad! errors and shaky serving. The AO draw will either make or break him.

That was one hell of a match. 2 hours and a half. Great tennis from both. Zverev was great today. Happy for him. Taking down Roger is a big step. Looking at the way he played today, he looks ready to make an impact soon.

Unfortunately, Roger fails in his first test. Zverev sure is improving every day. We have to consider that. Today he really showed that he can play good tennis. For Roger, I think he has time. He gets to play another match the day after tomorrow. After that, he needs to give his best in every match at Oz Open. If lucky, the result might get reversed there. This match was close. Looking ahead he has time to power up his game before Wimbledon which is anyway his main target. Here's hoping that Switzerland at least qualifies to the finals so that Roger can play 2 more matches before the Oz Open.

I don't think that Roger played awful. Yes, he can play better than this and he will. The first set TB was terrible. Other than that, I don't feel he played very bad. He was just average.

Zverev lost to Gasquet, so the main test for Roger could be Richard.

However, these things are not transitive. I give Gasquet 0 chance of beating fed.

Gasquet defeated a better version of Roger before. He has a lot more than zero % chance.

I'm actually pleased with the Zverev-Federer result. I didn't watch the match, but based on the score and what folks are saying, it sounds like Roger still--understandably--has some kinks to work out; it was only his second match in six months, after all! And I'm glad to see that Zverev seems to be ready to take another step forward. He's young and hungry and there's no shame for a rusty Roger to lose to him.

Considering Zverev had a match point against Nadal last year in an actual official ATP match there's zero shame losing to him. Clearly he's very good. Must watch highlights later.

You know, what a dummy I am, but I thought that this was the Zverev that Rafa is facing in Brisbane. There really ought to be a law. One of them should be forced to change his name. I think instead of being called "Zverev". the geezer who's facing Ralph should be called "Qdtzercvy". It would make things so much simpler... :popcorn

Considering Fed won one set and all sets went to TB, it is not a bad loss given that he is coming after 6 months break and playing a lad 16 years younger.

Now, Zverev becomes one of the few players with a winning record against Roger (2-1).

USA has won Group B.

Winner of France vs. Swiss Tie will play the USA in the finals.
