Hopman cup action has already started. USA defeated AUS and Spain defeated Czech today.

Here are the teams

Fed plays Dan Evans of GBR on Monday Night.

I'm going to bed, but Fed is up 5-2 in the first set. I assume he's playing well. Evans is only #66 in the world, but a truly rusty Fed might struggle to get by him easily.

I hope I don't wake up tomorrow to find these as famous last words.

Well, apart from the disgustingly low first serve %, and a few loose errors here and there, Roger is playing just fine. A tad rusty, but it could have been much worse.
The Kyrgios and Zverev matches should be way more interesting.

I will actually say Roger played a good match. It was his first after 5 months or so. So, given that, he did well. A few loose errors as someone said were there. His service will catch up slowly with more and more matches that he plays. Except these things his game was there. But, he hasn't been tested yet. Against Kyrgios his real level will be revealed. But, I am going to be optimistic about that. He did look good today.

I forgot but Federer vs Gasquet could be a good match too especially if Gasquet is able to really play his tennis well. He did well at the FO I think. I remember him beating Roger at Rome in 2011. So, it should be a good match hopefully.

One thing still amazes me. Roger's shot-making is still devastating on fast courts like this. His speed might have reduced but that is still right there. Amazing.

What do you guys think of the fast4 format for mixed doubles?

By the way, I was thinking do we have the same rules for doubles matches in slams and smaller tournaments alike?

Some pretty awesome shot making from Roger given the amount of time he's been off and I really like Dan Evans game too. Still remember his match against Wawrinka at the USO last year. One of the best matches of the tournament.

Dan Evans. Wasn't he the one who held MP against Stanimal at the USO?

With two losses, I believe Australia is eliminated from possibly winning Group B.

This means, even if Swiss wins Group A, we will not see a Fed vs. Nick match.

Given that Zverev managed to defeat Fed last year, Fed's match against this young chap is also bound to be interesting.

Zverev lost to Gasquet, so the main test for Roger could be Richard.

However, these things are not transitive. I give Gasquet 0 chance of beating fed.

Fed's serve is unusually slow, and I don't know why. His top speed is 196 kph, slower than Gasquet's which is 200 :(
These stats were provided by Eurosport, I am not making anything up.

I remember when Martina Navratilova started having trouble in the 90's; nothing on the serve! By her last Wimbledon final in '94, she was just spinning it in and Conchita Martinez ate it up by the 3rd set! :nono  :dodgy: :cover

Roger is playing like a cuck, completely letting Zverev dominate. Also, he didn't win a point on his own serve in the tiebreak. That is very worrying, I can't watch anymore.
