Julia Görges turning 25 today. Born 2/11 1988. One of Germany's promising players, but not this year. She's been a bit unlucky.

julia-goerges-7_display_image.jpg
julia-goerges-foto-imago-.jpg

Görges reached a career-high WTA singles ranking of world number 15 on 5 March 2012 and a doubles ranking of world number 20 on 26 August 2013. To date, she has won two singles and four doubles titles on the WTA tour. Gastein Ladies in 2010 and Porsche Tennis Grand Prix 2011 (beating Wozniacki)She began playing tennis around the age of five. In 2005 she began her career on the ITF Women's Circuit. 2009 was the first season that she played in the main draw of all four Grand Slam events. As said above a bad 2013 where she has lost in 1st round - a win loss 14-23.

SO cheer up Julia and may you have a nice birthday and come back strong in 2014.

Beautiful Ana Ivanovic has birthday today 6 November. Turning 26 playing almost at her best again. She ranked No. 1 in the world in 2008 aftere winning the French open.

ana-ivanovic-27a.jpg

A devine sigth:heart:

Since 2008 she has had bad luck in 18 of the last 19 grand slams where she hasn't reached a quarter final (she reached the US Open quarterfinal in 2012). She's currently #16 in the rankings and has done well this year. Ivanovic first picked up a racket at the age of five after watching Monica Seles, a fellow Yugoslav, on television. During the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, she was forced to train during the morning to avoid bombardments. Later, she admitted that she trained in an abandoned swimming pool in the winter, as no tennis facilities were available. When she was 15, Ivanovic spent four hours in a locker room crying after a defeat – the first that her new manager had witnessed. She thought that Dan Holzmann, the manager in question, would abandon her, thinking her not good enough to become a professional tennis player. He has remained her manager to this day. Until now she's won 11 tour titles (inclusive a slam). Congratulation Ana with your 26th and may you have a nice 2014 on the tour.

Ana is on the cover of a magazine in Latin America. With three covers in three years, Ana has been on the cover more times than any celebrity in the magazine's history!

Maybe a little strange to celebrate #106 in the rankings, but I'll do it anyway. I first spotted her in her match against Caroline Wozniacki in the first round of Luxembourg open. She played inspired tennis and tried her chance. She's a wildcard player, a local hero, it's Mandy Minella - a beautiful tennis player IMHO. In fact 2013 has been her best year so far winning 2 WTA doubles titles. Well see for yourself:

iE3K0WW5a2gpW.jpg

She was born 22 November 1985 in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg and started touring as 15 year old playing for the Luxembourg FED cup team. From 2003 - 2013 she's had success on the ITF tour winning 8 singles titles - the latest 4 november 2013 Captiva Island, US. Being runner up 8 times. 5 ITF doubles titles and 3 runner up - e.g. in 2004 she won with Elke Clijsters. Biggest succes on clay where she won her two WTA doubles titles this year. Speaking Luxembourgish, German, French, Italian and English so a real global player. Well even if she turns 28 today I think she'll have a good 2014. Now coached by Tim SOmmer. Congratulation to your 28th and may you have nice succes in the clay season.

Nice RJD11 haven't thought of past masters - would be nice to have them also - who is taking care of that ? I'm only concentrating about active players. Anyway - there was a past master who could celebrate her 40th birthday yesterday: Monica Seles - here from 2008 where she participated in Dancing with the stars:

Todays birthday kid is Coco Vandeweghe turning 22 on the 6th of December. Born in New York City. She is the granddaughter of 1952 Miss America Colleen Kay Hutchins. Made her debut on the WTA tour in 2007. Has a strong serve and a powerful backhand. Played with Serena Williams in the Hong Kong invitational in 2009. It went uphill in 2010 where she cracked the top 200 and got her first top 10 win over Vera Zvonareva - who is coming back in Shenzhen Open. In 2012 she was runner up in Stanford losing to Serena in the final. Currently #113. She's been doing ok in the last part of 2013 so maybe her year will be 2014. First a picture from Stanford 2012 and herself.

Urszula Radwańska born 7 December 1990 in Ahaus, Germany is 23 today. #40 in the rankings she's a bit behind her fan favorite sister Aga. Like Caroline she won the girls Wimbledon title in 2007 and then she began on the WTA tour. At the 2008 Wimbledon Championships, Radwańska made her Grand Slam singles debut, losing in the second round to two-time champion Serena Williams.Radwańska lost in the first round of 2010 Australian Open to eventual champion Serena Williams. Reached 1 final on the WTA tour in UNICEF Open, 's-Hertogenbosch 2012. She's won 1 doubles title with her sister in 2007 in Istanbul.

Tracy Ann Austin Holt (born December 12, 1962, in Palos Verdes, California) is a former World No. 1 professional tennis player from the United States and holds three Grand Slam titles winning the women's singles title at the US Open in 1979 and 1981 and the mixed doubles title at Wimbledon in 1980. Additionally, she won the WTA Tour Championships in 1980 and the 1981 year end Toyota Championships, both in singles, before a series of injuries cut her career short. Since 1979, she has held the record as youngest ever US Open female singles champion. Here she is in 1990 with two young players - who might that be :)

Galina Olegovna Voskoboeva one of the many Russians - well born Russian and now Kazakhstan citizen - on tour and current #67 in the rankings is celabrating her 29th birthday today. Started playing at the age of six and turned pro in 2002. For many years she was playing without a coach but has teamed up with Alina Jidkova, former top 100 player who retired at the end of 2010. During her career, she has won two ITF singles titles. The closest to a WTA title was in Seoul in 2011 where she was a runnerup. In doubles she has 4 titles with different partners like Dinara Safina, Alisa Kleybanova, Andrea Hlaváčková and Kristina Mladenovic with whom she won in Memphis this year. One of the hotties in the top 100:cool:

Hsieh Su-wei (Hsieh is her surname) is our next birthday kid born 4th of January 1986 in Taiwan/Taipei. She's currently #86 in the singles rankings after having her highest rankings in February 2013 where she's ranked 23, and she's the first of a few Chinese female tennisplayers having birthday in January. Currently #3 in the doubles rankings. She has 6 brothers and sisters. Introduced to tennis by her father as 5 year old. Hsieh has a very different style of play, compared to most of the other players. She hits the ball with two hands on both sides, thus hitting very flat. Her unorthodox way of playing creates many big angles in her game and makes her shots unpredictable. Some pretty nice stats. When she entered the ITF circuit in 2001 as 15 year old she won all 5 ITF events she took part in and came to the semifinal in the first of 2 WTA events in Bali and with only 7 tournaments in 2001 she had a win loss record of 41-2. 37 wins in a row - quite impressive eh? All in all she has 23 ITF singles titles. 20 ITF doubles titles. Here with her Wimbledon trophy.
201307070005t2015.jpg
HsiehSu-Wei080927InactionG300.jpg

Later has brought her ups and downs with her best year in 2013 where she won two doubles titles Wimbledon (first Taiwanese to win a slam)and Year-end championship in Istanbul - both events together with her partner Peng Shuai. A maybe little bizarre story is that China tried to buy her with a bribe of $1.63 million - per year - if she'd become Chinese citizen - she declined and was later sponsered by Taiwanese sponsors for the same amount. With Peng she's won 12 other doubles titles among them Rome and Beijing 2009 and Rome and Cincy in 2011. 2 WTA singles titles in 2012 Malaysian Open and Guangzhou, China. So congrats to the doubles specialist and her 28th birthday.

Again we have two birthday kids - another Chinese Peng Shuai and American Jamie Hampton. Peng Shuai born January 8, 1986 in Xiangtan is Chinese professional female tennis player #2 after Li Na. She won a gold medal at the 2010 Asian Games, defeating Akgul Amanmuradova in the final. At the 2013 Wimbledon Championships, Peng won her first ladies' double championship with Taiwanese professional tennis player Hsieh Su-wei, which is her partner now.Peng is known for her stamina and plays with two hands on both sides and hits very flat. She has defeated many top 10 and top 5 players, including Anastasia Myskina, Elena Dementieva, Dinara Safina, Kim Clijsters, Martina Hingis, Amélie Mauresmo, Francesca Schiavone, Jelena Janković, Maria Sharapova, Ana Ivanovic, Agnieszka Radwańska, Li Na, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Nadia Petrova and Vera Zvonareva. She has 7 doubles titles (6 of them with Shieh) the 2 most important in 2013 - Wimbledon and YEC.She's currently #42 in the singles ranking. She turns 28 today.

Jamie Hampton was born (born January 8, 1990) in Frankfurt, West Germany, because her father, a career US Army officer, was stationed in Germany at the time. Her mother is from South Korea. Soon after, the family moved to the United States. She lived in Enterprise, Alabama, until she was 13; then, she moved to Auburn, Alabama. Before graduating from Auburn High School in 2008, Hampton twice won the USTA Girls’ 18s doubles title. Hampton turned pro in 2009, playing her first U.S. Open in 2010. After qualifying for the 2013 Aegon International in Eastbourne, Hampton upset top seed and world no. 4 Agnieszka Radwańska in straight sets in the first round, and then went on to beat Caroline Wozniacki in the semifinals to reach her first WTA final. She lost in the final to Elena Vesnina in straight sets. Hampton reached the semifinals of the 2013 Bank of the West Classic in Stanford, California, where she was seeded fourth. With this result, she reached a career-high ranking of no. 24 now she's currently #28 in the singles ranking after a good 2013. At the US Open, where Hampton was seeded at a Major for the first time, she reached the third round, but was defeated by Sloane Stephens. An upcoming star turning 24 today.
