I am not worried about Ivo. Dr. Ivo cannot have two great serving days in a row also. Fed is generally known to be good while playing against big servers (just ask Roddick). I am sure Fed will win the SF.

I am also sure Fed will win against Seppi (less likely opponent) in F. But Kei (more likely opponent) might be able to stop Fed. Kei has a reasonably good H2H against Fed and matches up well with Fed
(i.e., gives trouble to Fed).

If Nishikori takes the tournament, he could be seeded at No. 4 instead of Wawrinka. He'll pass Stan in the official rankings but who knows what the seeding committee will decide to do. This is a very important weekend for Nishikori. Hope he does it!

There is no seeding committee for Men's seedings. It is formulaic. See Wimbledon preview thread for the formula. But, these two are neck and neck.

Last year Stan reached QF whereas Kei reached only R16. So, Stan will have a lead of 180 over Kei that is not reflected in the ranking pts as per the formula. But, that lead is not safe as Kei's Halle points will also be double counted and it is a 500 event. It looks to me that Kei may not even need to win the event to bypass Stan. If he can reach the finals (which is doable) that may be good enough as these 300 points will be double counted.

That's good to know. And a bit surprising. No seeding committee. According to the Live ATP rankings, Nishikori will be 10 points behind Wawrinka if he finishes as runner up. I have no idea how accurate that ranking is though. Seems to be pretty much on the money but that's very close.

Here are the 45 aces by Karlovic which set a record for most in a 3-set match.

^ No disrespect to you or to Dr. Evil, but it's boring enough to watch 45 aces during a match, much less in succession on youtube.

I see I was correct for once!

They don't mess around in Halle, these matches are too early

Fed leads Kei (the projected finalist) by 3-2 including win over him last year at this tourney.

2014 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals Great Britain RR Roger Federer 63 62

2014 Halle Germany SF Roger Federer 63 764

2014 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Miami FL, U.S.A. QF Kei Nishikori 36 75 64

2013 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Madrid Spain R16 Kei Nishikori 64 16 62

2011 Basel Switzerland F Roger Federer 61 63

I remember both the Madrid and IW loses. After Madird Fed claimed that he played so poorly that Kei did not even have to play good to beat him. Hopefully, it won't happen again.

I don't believe there's been a seeding committee for men since 2002. The committee for women is still in place, afaik

The Miami loss was worse. I think Roger was up 4-2 or 4-1 in the second and then started spraying errors all over the place. Kei was playing pretty well at the start of 2014 but the major improvement was in the 2nd half of the year. I'd say he's overall a much better player now than at the time of the Miami match. That said this is very fast grass and there isn't anyone in the world that Roger "should" lose to on this stuff.

I agree DF, Rog has no business even thinking about losing to Samurai on grass.

People must be giving up at the mere sight of Seppi or something. Hopefully that doesn't happen tomorrow :)

This means Stan will have his own quarter for the first time in a GS, I believe.

Roger is a razor blade right now. So sharp and accurate. He is now back to actually hitting his forehand instead of just pushing it into the middle of the court. I like what I'm seeing from him a lot.
Also, who in hell could hang with Karlovic in a rally on grass if he is hitting forehands? He has to average about 140 km/h on that wing.

Dr. Evil might have been eliminated from the tourney, but he was never broken in this tourney.

He had a great week and to be ranked 25 at his age is pretty impressive.
