The draw of Stuttgart is out . Fed has a tough path to the title.

He has only one easy round, namely the first round when plays Mr. Bye.

1R: Bye.
2R: M. Zverev (serve and volleyer, who can be dangerous on grass).
QF: Shapo (up and coming youngster).
SF: Nick (good on grass, assuming he is injury free).
F: Birdman (has history of giving headache to Fed).

Misha Zverer early isn't a great place to start. Roger's going to come out of the gate hot.

Only really tough if Nick makes the appointment. Otherwise it's just about how ready he is to roll.

I'd bet on Misha or Shapo to give him more trouble than Nick. I don't think Kyrgios is at all ready for his close-up.

If nick makes the SF and Roger is there it will be tough. Any decent tennis from Roger smacks around the other guys.

Nick is still not feeling well. In Lyon, he played doubles but not singles. He skipped RG. Right now he is playing in a challenger on grass in Surbiton. There also, he is entered only in doubles and not in singles. He says he is testing out his shoulders by playing in the doubles. It is safe to say he is not even 90%.

On paper. I'm just saying he's going to have to come out ready. It's not like he's going to get a couple of gimme rounds. As GSM says, it's not an easy draw.

It's not too meaningful regardless. Halle is more telling and will have a more difficult draw. He just has to realize how important the rest of this summer is. Needs at least one more major this year, Wimbledon figures to be the best bet.

Bird is also in general decay and may not last long enough to face Fed.

So, Fed's first two matches may be more of a banana skin than the rest (both in terms of opponents and in terms of Fed's own match toughness issues after a long break).

How much longer before Berdych calls it a day and retires? The only reason he's even still int he top 20 is because the field beyond the top 4-5 is pretty weak right now.

I do not if this is appropriate in this thread, but if Federer reaches the finals, he returns to the top of the rankings so there is some incentive to do well in this tournament.

But like Darth said, Halle will determine his form level going to Wimbledon.

I was actually just thinking that Roger would have some chance to get the #1 back this week. Any word on if Rafa is playing Queens?

There is no official word yet, Moxie. But he is on the entry list on playing Queens so that's kinda good news. The one thing he could rely on this year is that he has only played 32 matches in 6 tournaments this year so far. So that means he should be fresh and should able to play Queens :good:

According to Bookies, the Peasant is second in line to win Wimbledon.

And who would that be? OK, Nadal. I am so done with you Feddies making Nadal out to be a peasant, blue-collar, whatever lesser. He is fully tennis royalty. I don't know why it takes 11 wins at RG and we still have to remind you. I'll also remind you that he has a much classier pedigree than Roger in life. Complain about his tennis if you like, but his family goes back to the 14th C. in Mallorca. His grandfather was a composer and symphony conductor. His uncle was a great player for Barça and FC Mallorca. He was raised upper-middle class to Roger's very solidly middle-class, with no other interesting pedigree to speak of. Please stop calling Rafa a peasant.

I think you have a little trauma with the Spaniards, you not only say names to Nadal but olso to Garbiñe. You should learn to diference between who has a real class or “prefabricated”. Remember that your idol had to learn a lot before to show to the world that....let’s go to say “fake class” which some of you have so much admiration

LOL Fed's first tournament back from a 3 month hiatus and he gets such a draw. His 250 draw is tougher than dull's RG draw. :lulz1:

Hope Fed wins. I'm sure some random loser will peak.

Wonder why he behaves worse than a peasant oncourt then. I could care less what he does off court, none of my business.

Based on the field enrolled for Stuttgart, which is definitely competitive for a 250, Roger's draw isn't actually that much different than Rafa's early rounds for RG, by ranking. And Shapo is in there, which he was in Rafa's. Actually, a Major draw should feature lower ranked players for the early rounds, so, given that Stuttgart is a 250, Rafa actually had a competitive draw, given that Roger's in a 250 features players of similar rankings.
