A qualifier for the SF. Just what the doctor ordered for Fed of the moment.

Traditionally, it has always been like that. Halle field is usually weak, except for Fed and Queens is very strong with lot of contenders for the title.

Come on man :D You're creating phantom threats now

I'm not creating threats lol. I'm just staying Coric and RBA are well beyond the cream puffs Fed has played so far. Obviously any decent tennis sees him through the finish line here.

Haha! Ok fair enough. But to me it's like saying so far he's faced knee level players and now he's playing hip level players. Better but no one capable of staring him in the eye

Besides, in the final Fed will raise his game as much as is needed and so I am not worried.

Incidentally, today's match win of Fed was his 1156th match win. It puts him exactly 100 matches below the leader in that category, Jimmy Connors (though most of Connors's wins are from lowly tournaments). Fed needs to play till at least 40 to break this record.

how do you figure? In full seasons he tends to win at least 50 matches. You have to think he stands a good chance of getting there early in 2020 if not before

Last year, he had 52 wins. But, it is kind of exceptionally good year. I expect no. of wins to go down, partly because he will be even more selective in playing. We cannot expect 100 wins in two years. I am expecting it will take three more years. Fed is now almost 37 (come august) and hence the projection that he needs to play till 40 if he wants to break this record.

That's a fair point, but if he wins say... another 30 matches this year he'll only have 70 to go. My projection could still be on point

Also, with three more wins Fed ties Connor's record of 174 match wins on grass. It should happen in Wimbledon first round.

How the hell did Connors get so many grasscourt wins without any Wimbledons? How did he manage to vulture so many?

I hope Fed doesn't care about the wins and total titles record until it is staring him in the face. No need to play extra, it is all about the majors. What he needs to be thinking every night he goes to bed is that "you can't get 10 Wimbledon's without first getting 9"

No one is recommending extra play. These records will happen on its own, while Fed is focusing on majors.

These are big records, especially titles won. The worry would be if/when he gets close that he plays a couple extra tournaments trying to chase titles. After the massive screwup last year he has probably learned his lesson.

In old days, there were several grass court tourneys unlike now (conspiracy theory against Fed ;)). In fact, at one time three of four GSs were on Grass, not to mention lot of small ones.

His 1974 3-slam season was entirely on grass.

Good old days :rip:

Kudla hasn't dropped a set all tourney. He's only been broken once coming into this match
