Jimmy Connors going to be commentating at Wimbledon for the BBC this year. He was great the last time, am looking forward to hearing him again...

I honestly can't remember Connors commentating last year. I'm kind of glad there will be no Boris this year. Thanks Novak.

Last time he commentated for the Beeb was 2007, I think. Yeah, I'm glad Becker is gone. I saw that in the new book on Lendl, Becker is described as the tennis "philosopher king."

:lolz: :lolz:

Do you mean Lendl described Becker that way, or did the author get it from someone else?

I think the author did, mainly because Becker was the only person willing to talk to him... :snigger

http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2014/jun/11/old-school-aussie-marinko-matosevic-beats-marin-cilic-at-queens

Matosevic also showed an old school attitude to equal rights when commenting on Andy Murray’s decision to appoint a female coach, Amélie Mauresmo. “For me, I couldn’t do it, since I don’t think that highly of the women’s game,” he said. “But Andy’s mum coached him and she did a great job with him, so we’ll see what happens. It’s all equal rights these days, you’ve got to be politically correct, so someone’s got to give it a go – it won’t be me.”

Gulbis was interviewed by BBC radio re Mauresmo appointment. He said he's hoping to be coached by Sharapova or Ivanovic, can't decide which. The blonde or the brunette.

Mauresmo responded by saying, "He's provocative. I'm not sure he was really thinking this way. I'm not shocked because I know him."

The attitude does not make sense though. I am not crazy about women's tennis either but it has got nothing to do with a woman's ability to coach. She is not there to hit with Murray. Toni cannot hit with Rafa either. It is about what she can bring to the table strategy wise, fitness wise, etc.

Hmm not sure if this is accurate or not. Perhaps they want to be married before the baby is born.

http://inserbia.info/today/2014/06/novak-djokovic-and-jelena-ristic-getting-married-this-weekend-in-montenegro/

EDIT

I've just seen photos on twitter of Novak with an inflatable doll. Looks like his holiday with the guys was a stag party. Not sure if the wedding before Wimbledon is accurate. He could be doing it after the tournament but getting the stag do out the way.

Juan Monaco is out of Wimbledon, not that he's been good on grass anyway.

"Hi all!! Unfortunately I have to inform you that I will not be able to be present at the third Grand Slam of the season, Wimbledon, because I have a torn left obturator presence of edema in the area, which prevents me from moving properly and precludes me to compete. The recovery could take three to four weeks. Hopefully I can have a quick recovery to return to the circuit! Thank you for your messages of encouragement!!"

RE: General tennis news

While it would be cool for him to have Murray as his best man, I don't see that as viable given that there was a very good chance Andy would still be in action at Queen's this weekend.

I so think that in Nadal's case it was a tank!

Presume that's sarcasm if you actually watched the match.

Agreed, Front. Rafa was soundly beaten by an inspired, motivated player. No one should take anything away from Brown's victory. He won; Rafa didn't tank.

Jon Wertheim talked to Robin Soderling, who says he's not retired, that he's been practicing and is planning to come to tennis! (According to Tennis Channel.) Just when we'd finally given up on him. Let's hope it works out.

Yes, and Brown brought it again today, pushing PK, who conquered Nadal last year, to a 18-16 tiebreak in the 3rd. He had around 7 match points.

He also defeated Hewitt, a former champion, at Wimbledon.

If it was a tank, would you have to give the money back? :snigger
