Guess Roger decided to play 'cos he was fed up with them slating him for not playing. And it's good timing to play when his friend just won the biggest title of his career.

*drum rolls*.....ba dumm tsshhhh.

moving away from the world of puns, Federer realised..oh look at Serbia, no djokovic/quitsarevic/troika..think I will play after all. :devil

LOL yeah, that's the main reason I reckon. Serbia have no player ranked below 100 playing so if Fed and Stan lose well. Hmmm :s

Assuming Switzerland wins, they next play winner of Kazaakstan and Belgium

Belgium's #1 is #113 David Goffin. Kazakstan's #1 is #67 Mikhail Kukushkin.

The DC makes Roger's 17th tournament. So, he is just one short of official full schedule
at the tender age of 32.

Fed does not like to make public when the baby is due (in fact, one reporter
had the audacity to ask and Fed cut him short saying he does not want to say anything
further about the matter at this time). But, I am sure it is probably not beyond
the bounds of some tabloids or foreign press or swiss media.
Does anyone out there has any inside info on this? I am wondering as to how,
it might impact his schedule.

He announced it on Christmas Eve. It is reasonable to assume that
three months were over at that time, as generally people do not like to
make things public until then. So, probably the baby is due after Wimby
and before USO, in which case no schedule adjustments will be needed.

According to what I read, the baby'll show up around Roma/RG but nobody can predict such an unrpedictable thing, even Mirka doesn't know exactly the D. Day. I guess it'll impact Youngderer's schedule of course

is fair mirka heavy with an oven full of bun and also sporting engorged bosoms ?

..a wild guess, the sprog will fly out sometime between may 1st and july sometime or maybe june or start of august maybe if not slightly later or even before any of those aforementioned dates.

It's got to be admired, how the Clan Federer manage to traipse around the globe and keep their high standards. Mirka must be an exceptional woman - living in great privilege, it's true - but I think Federer's public handling of his family life has been as great as his tennis career...

I ran into Mirka at the Ben & Jerry's ice cream stand at the Sony Open in Miami and was listening to her chat with a friend whilst standing in the same line I had been in. I said hello and she smiled and replied courteously. She was very pleasant and looked truly beautiful--I must say--which some women do when pregnant.

According to what I read somewhere (forgot where), the baby is expected sometime
in July.

As a consequence, I could anticipate Fed missing Canada Masters and/or Cincinnatti
Masters. In view of that and to compensate for the anticipated missed Masters tournaments
Fed is playing MC I guess.

A nice consequence, would be that he can possibly get seeded in top 4 in Wimby.
Nadal and Novak are sure to be in top 4 in Wimby seedings with such huge point
accumulations. Due to the formula that Wimbledon uses and due to the fact that
Murray had won Wimby last year and Olympics the year before, Murray is almost
sure to be in top 4 in Wimbledon even though his current ranking is only 8.

So, there is room for only one Swiss in top 4 in Wimbledon. With Fed playing in
MC, that surely increases the chances that it will be him.

Finally, I had always been a strong proponent that Fed should continue to
play MC as it is one of the few cups that he does not have in his cupboard
(along with Rome, Shanghai and DC).

IMO they can't get away with doing such a thing! If Murray had come back from surgery 100% and was on a winning streak; maybe! My memory isn't the best these days, but they just don't do that kind of heavy manipulation of the seeds anymore the last decade or so! They do have that option to take in consideration at "majors" the surface, player history at the event, and other shinanigans, but I doubt they could justify such a thing with Murray in the condition that he's in! I hope he doesn't read this, but I think he'll be lucky to get to the quarters! He's the most likely to be upset esp. if the grass footing problem from last season hasn't been solved! His court movement is his real weapon and if he can't run down balls, he toast!

no way is Federer going from Wimbledon and then next tourney is u.s open, he is asking to be caught cold with no flow to his tennis if he tries that. (I think borg did it though in 1981, but he wasn't as old as Federer obviously)

if the delightful sprog flops out in july there is plenty of time for bonding and mopping up sick before once more Federer picking up his trusty wand and galloping off into the aching sunset on his trusty steed towards the bright lights of..erm.....cincinnatti.

It might be that if the child is born after Wimbledon, he has no choice. It's not a huge sacrifice, given what they're gaining. At some point a family man has to make sacrifices in their career, and Federer will gladly do so this summer.

I expect an almighty shove from him at Wimbledon, and Paris too, if that's the case...
