We already have the third Fedal match of the year. At the beginning of the year, I was afraid that this year might be a nightmare of recurring Nolandy finals. Now, all of a sudden we are getting multiple Fedal finals. Back to the future.

23-13 is the current H2H. If Fed wins this one, the difference in H2H will be in single digit.

Who you got?

Winner becomes #4 in rankings.

The one day rest will help Fed.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to see it live due to other commitments. But, I would not be nervous.

I am not expecting any Fedal matches on clay or grass this year. So, I think we can only see Fedal when they come back to NA on HC.

I'll take Roger in 2. He's definitely had the tougher draw and will be the tireder of the two so he's going to want to keep points short which means being hyper-aggressive off the ground and coming forward. Unless Nadal is more offensive, comes forward and tries to take the net away? He's probably going to lose this one, too. He can always hope that Roger's old age makes him forgetful and he goes back to chipping his backhand...

Question - If Roger wins Sunday, does anyone think he'll play many of the clay court Masters? I can see him skipping Monte Carlo and Madrid and playing Rome. I don't think he'll skip the French Open even though SI's Jon Wertheim said there were rumors at IW that he would skip the entire clay court season to concentrate on the grass events to be ready for Wimbledon. He has no points to defend at the French, so why wouldn't he play that and skip Stuttgart and only play Halle?

This has been discussed in Fed's schedule thread. One thing he has said categorically is that he will play RG, whether or not he plays in any warm ups for it.

My guess is that

1) If Roger has some eye on #1, he will play both Madrid and Rome before RG.
2) If Roger has the feeling that if #1 happens, let it, but I am not going to try for it attitude,
he will play just Rome and then RG.

I am hoping he does option 2 above.

It really deserves its own thread and a poll. 23rd time they've met in a final. Murray and Djokovic who?

I think he plays one clay Masters, regardless of Sunday's result. And yes, definitely Roland Garros.

I think Nadal wins in three. The 2 matches against Tomas and Nick have shown that Riger's back hand is vulnerable on the Miami surface, and I am sure Nadal is taking note of that.

Rafa has been mixing his serves, more flat serves to the add and deuce courts. Also he is moving forward..Toni knows how to architect a game plan to make Roger uncomfortable. Rafa knows Fed wants no part of endless long backcourt rallies and first strike tennis is of the essence. The Rafa that played against Grigor is the only one that can defeat Roger. All Roger has to do is to play his offensive game and wait til Rafa dropped it short. If Rafa is foolish enough to think that loopy balls to the backhand will break Rogers game down, then Roger will win easily in two.

Sundays in Miami hasn't previously been kind to Nadal. I am kind of curious to see how much Did Nick take out of Roger's legs..I doubt he would practice on Saturday..no pressure on Roger Sunday, or any match for the rest of his career, he is playing with house money and the man doesn't even gamble.

Well, Roger needs to keep his UEs down. But yes the court has always a role in deciding these things. When you have a good feel of the points on the court, your UEs come down and winners go up automatically. But he still needs to keep them down and he needs to be aggressive. It's going to be tougher than Australian and IW. Still, I would want to be positive about the match. If he can serve well and play accurate tennis, he wins again.

I hope Roger wins.

I guess Roger in 3 or tight 2. (Moulded by subjectivity to a small extent at least)

RE: Fedal - XXXVII

Just watched the Fed SF in replay.

High quality tennis from both guys, the match could have gone either way several times. So many crucial moments. Just crazy. Kyrgios was really fighting, and was mostly good at keeping the dickhead crowd at Miami out of his mind.

As for the final, Federer had some sick returns on serve vs Kyrgios, which is a much better server than Nadal. If he can keep the great return rate up, especially on those short Nadal 2nd serves, combined with a good 1st serve % and not seeing "Shankerer" return, then I think Fed has a good chance at getting another win.

That said, he is clearly fatigued after the back-to-back Masters, and the draw was again very tough, which didn't help. He was really SERIOUS MODE during the SF though, really fighting on every ball, so I hope he still has some juice left in the tank.

I think this can go either way. Before the SFs I'd give Nadal a 60-40 % on the win. Now? Maybe 50-50 %. This is going to be exciting!

Nah, I won´t waste the opportunity to brag: No chance for Nadal, Federer is in head. Easy two.

Haven't been able to watch any of the matches, so don't want to make any predictions.

Scores in the last matches suggest Nadal may be back to his AO2017 level, while Fed has quite a few matches in his busy from the last weeks.

If the surface plays similar to previous years, it should be better for Rafa than AO or IW too. But it's really hard to make any predictions.

My guess is it'll be tight, like the AO final, rather than a simple win for either player like IW.

I really really want Roger to win this - but can't begrudge Nadal the title if he finally wins here.

I don't know how much Roger has left in the tank but I feel he will leave it all out on the court since he will probably not be playing until Rome , which is a month and a half away ( I am just guessing here).

Still may not be enough against Rafa. I am guessing Roger in two or Rafa in three.

Rafa has not won a HC title since Jan 2014 when he won Doha. That is more than three years.

Rafa is 0-4 in Miami finals and that too has a pattern of losing in 2005, 2008, 2011, 2014 and then...:devil

return of the geriatric super heroes... This shows how R&R brought fans and interest into the sport.. these two guys could be vacationing on yachts and still keep their legacies plus monies. Instead, they are sweating it out in Crandon park with kids. The former IW director was crucified for stating the obvious below.

Moore said. “If I was a lady player, I’d go down every night on my knees and thank God that Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal were born, because they have carried this sport.”

^ He was mostly crucified for his comments about the pootang in the WTA :D

He said "the WTA has a handful of very attractive prospects that can assume the mantle".
