Mark Petchey just said let's hope Federer can keep playing another 4-5 years. Can't see it but would be great for the sport if he did. He'd still be top 10 even in a few years.

Well, this is true, and on his least favourite surface, and after a tough week. So it's definitely evidence that he's moved in the right direction. He's not shanking so much as he did earlier in the year, far more combative, and definitely on the rise. The result today isn't what we wanted, and I'll try watch the highlights later cos I couldn't see it, but still, it's a great sign to see Nadal getting back into the mix. Tennis needs him!

Swiss-German sounds like a pan-European pig Latin. Very odd language.

Yeah it's weird. Was thinking the very same thing.

I saw him a little passive in that third set and more after that wrong call of his serve but anyway I'm sure he is ok with that loss in the Roger town, crowd, indoor and more after having soooooo bad year losing against anyone. he is showing that his bad patch is finishing

Expected outcome, but it was not easy. I would have been disappointed to see Roger losing after winning the first set.
Roger passes Andy and is back ranked #2, which is a plus as well.

Fantastic match. Roger did make some sloppy errors in ralles, but I won't be losing too much sleep over it. Nadal played great, but still a bit shaky in his own service games just as I expected, but he is getting bits of the old puzzle back together.

I worked in the office with one guy born in Switzerland and the other in Berlin. The German said he has hard time understanding the Swiss when speaking german;)

Yeah, didn't realize it was so radically different. I speak an ok amount of German but tons of words in Swiss-German are completely different.

I was very impressed with his movement and the placement of his service. Rafa needs to review this week in its totally .If he plays aggressively and is moving forward, he can be competitive with everyone including the newly anointed one by his "fans" . Yeah, easier said than done but it's possible

Rafa undoubtedly has confirmed the incline theory. He has reached the finals of an indoor event and got a set off Fed. No more proof needed.

The 500s are over. Federer and Ferrer are the king of 500's with three a piece. Here is the distribution of the 13 500s.

Fed ---------3
Ferru -------3
Man ------- 2
Samurai --- 2
Andy ------- 1
Rafa ------- 1
Novak ----- 1

It's not good enough, Nadal losing to Federer, but I like the way he dug deep against more or less everybody this week. I think it caught up with him, but also, he needs to be more steady in the clutch, it seems. I said to tented at 5-4 to Fed in the second, that I expected Rafa to win in the third pulling away. He didn't, so that also gives him room to improve. They're all getting cheap hits against this worst version of Rafa, but he finally looks like he's near ready to hit back...

Well, it's like the Spanish from Spain or from Central and South America, the accent is different and also many words for them means something different

Especially the last game, he had some very good looks at passing shots (missed the dtl fh and choose the percentage shot at 30-30 of going CC instead of dtl) but a very good week , playing with confidence & aggression is the key to getting back to the top.

Cheap hits? He was never any good on indoor courts all his career. Don't get carried away :p

If Rafa would have attacked Roger by coming forward, taking control of the net and the center of the court , your predictions would have came to fruition. Hey it's not how you, Tented or I roll, Fed played the best and deserves the Basel title. We will lace em up next week and continue to play competitive tennis.
