"If Rafa can't beat Roger, it would be more worrying a loss than the triple-whammy to Triple-F, especially when we now see evidence of a slight incline in Rafa's fortunes... "

And this:
"To lose to an octogenarian, albeit one who's an historic anomaly in his conditioning, is not a sign of the Incline. Factor in that Federer has now played two three set matches. Oh, and also, who the heck is Federer when it comes to matches with Nadal. Exactly.
This would be a poor result for Nadal, a sign that the incline only goes up against the makeweights... "

A win would obviously show progress, after defeats to FFS, Tsonga, and just about everybody else in tennis. You have seen his results this year, right? He's lost easily to both Murray and Djoker. He lost in straights to Stan in Rome, but dispatched Stan handy in Shanghai. A victory over Federer would be an obvious and concrete sign of progress.
By the way, I predicted him to win, and I expect him to. I never expect Rafa to lose to Federer. If he does lose, it's just simply more evidence that although he's on an incline, he hasn't yet gotten to where he's going to...
Ah ok I get it. So a win over Federer is now a sign of progress whereas earlier today it was labelled poor if he loses and more worrying than losing to Fognini?! I guess things change drastically in a few hours! And it means nothing if he loses tomorrow seeing as it only matters if he wins, incline apparently if he does as you expect him to always beat Federer but if he happens to lose it means he's not improved enough. But yet he doesn't need to improve at all since you always expect him to beat Federer. At
least I'm clear now anyway even if 99.99% of the posters weren't.
99.99% of the posters are Roger/Novak fans :snicker
