RE: Stuart Scott: Dead at age 49

The World of Celebrities respond to the news of Stuart Scott passing.

President Obama said in a statement, “I will miss Stuart Scott. Twenty years ago, Stu helped usher in a new way to talk about our favorite teams and the day’s best plays. For much of those twenty years, public service and campaigns have kept me from my family – but wherever I went, I could flip on the TV and Stu and his colleagues on ‘SportsCenter were there.'”

Can't say it any better than that AP. Just like many kids my age we were glued to Sportscenter hours on end and there was not a more entertaining and energetic anchor than Scott. Stuart brought that same energy to his long and inspirational fight vs. cancer. Cool as the other side of the pillow all the way to the end. RIP

For you buddy. I thought you may like this one

AP,

The family is holding a press conference later, but it will be announced that a month ago he fell and hit his head and he never recovered.

We lost another sports icon: UNC's Dean Smith passed last night, he was 83. He won 2 NCAA championships coaching college basketball. He coached Michael Jordan back in the 80's. He will be missed.

Jordan had this to say about his former coach:
"Other than my parents, no one had a bigger influence on my life than Coach Smith. He was more than a coach – he was my mentor, my teacher, my second father. Coach was always there for me whenever I needed him and I loved him for it. In teaching me the game of basketball, he taught me about life. My heart goes out to Linnea and their kids. We’ve lost a great man who had an incredible impact on his players, his staff and the entire UNC family.”

We've lost the 4th sports icon in this very young year. Farewell to Jerry Tarkanian, a college basketball coach with UNLV that won a national title in 1984. He was 84.

The older I get, the common place this sort of news becomes. Sad but a part of life. I'll always think of the towel chewing coach when I hear about UNLV.

Goodbye to Bob Simon. A long time war correspondent for CBS and 60 Minutes, was killed in a car crash in Manhattatn. He was 73. He's most remembered for being held prisoner for 40 days during the Gulf War in the 90's at an Iraqi prison. He's won 27 Emmy's and several Peabody awards and was well respected in the media community. He will be greatly missed.

steve strange died age 55. :(

the kid from cearphilly who wwnt to the infamous gig at said town by the sex pistols that was picketed and filmed by outraged Christian killjoys (clip in the great rock n roll swindle)..and ended up in London and started the blitz club' new romantic nightclub in soho..if you were not fabulous enough then you were not getting in.

the blitz club had culture club, Marilyn , and Spandau ballet used to be the house band for a bit (I think)..plus loads of other folk, he once turned away mick jagger at the door because he said jagger was too poorly dressed

he was also singer in new romantic group visage, mind of a toy / fade to grey etc. one of the people that helped lifted Britain out of the stultifying dismal gloom of the 1970s and changed the inside of more people's heads that is possible to calculate..

the explosion , and ramifications on fasihon, music..and thinking that burst out of the blitz kidz scene can still be felt today.

Bob Simon--who spent 40 days as a captive along with other newsmen in Iraq during the Persian Gulf War--dies in his hometown in a car accident. Strange how things go. I always enjoyed his pieces on 60 Minutes. Two of his very best were of the Greek Orthodox monks on the holy mountain--Mt. Athos, as well as his definitive exploration of the Copts in Egypt (at least for folks in USA). They were both superlative examples of good reporting. Like Andy Rooney before him, he is one whose pieces I will miss. Prayers and condolences to his family. Requiescat in pace, Mr. Simon.

We've lost one of the Trekkies:

Leonard Nimoy, better known as Mr. Spock has passed away at the age of 83. He suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder even though he says he quit smoking 30 years ago. I loved his character and he will most assuredly be missed.
