Rafa has lost 6-3 6-2 vs Berdych in the Exhibiton match, hope he will do better in the second match vs Haas

Maybe if posters like Shawn or Kieran was on this thread, they would have less bias towards Sampras. That's,why I said, for 1set at age 22, who would win. No chance on this proFed board would I suggest Pete was a better tennis player, than,Roger.

I think there is nothing wrong in making an argument for Sampras being a better player than Roger. Even though there maybe many Fed fans on the boards, you can convince them with facts.

Life is too short..I have been around some of those posters for more than 5-6 years... it's either blue or red on these boards ..besides the only purple man I know of unfortunately passed last April.

I've always said there is a difference between "greatest" and "best". Usually they are one and the same, a player who is the greatest is also the best but not always. There is no reasonable argument for Sampras being greater. That's just a measure of accomplishments and he doesn't stack up. As far as who is better? I'd say it's pretty clearly Roger as well. More dominant, and better in every way aside from serve and net play.

It is sad to hear about someone passing. So who is this purple man you are referring to? Was he on these boards?

Its about semantics. In soccer, greatest and best are often used interchangeably. However, I agree with your definition of greatest and best, and both definitions apply to Roger for now.

Roger was 157-24 on grass, winning 87% of his matches, including 16 titles of 40 tournaments played (40%), 7 of them Wimbledon.

Pete was 101-20 on grass, winning 83% of his matches, including 10 titles of 30 tournaments played (33%), 7 of them Wimbledon.

We can never know who would have won of peak Roger vs. peak Pete on grass but overall, Roger has performed better on grass.

I think another way to put the above, is that Roger did everything Pete did, plus going 56-4 in 60 more grass matches, and winning 6 titles in 10 more tournaments played.

Not good scores for an exho..

He said last week he didn't like his form so ..however Moya said that his preparation has been excellent..my money is hoping Moya is correct.

Yeah...not a great sign, especially v. Berdych. We're going to have to hope that Rafa finds his grass feet quickly, and probably that the draw is kind in the opening rounds. :-(

I didn't see it but, in Nadal's defense, Berdych played very well against Federer at Miami not long ago. He's extremely inconsistent these days and definitely declining but still capable of a very good performance. He has such a high ball toss that when he's serving well on grass it can be extremely tough, especially when he smacks it down the T. Not many guys getting those back.

I appreciate the thought, but Rafa has generally had very good results v. Tomas, so it's not a great time to have a score like that.

We know Rafa will draw Novak ..

Not so sure about that. Busted posted earlier (and I agree) that they may conveniently have it that Murray doesn't have to play Federer. Not saying it's rigged or anything :p I think it will be Murray and Nadal and Federer and Djokovic if they all make it that far. Going out on a limb to say Djokovic may surprise and get some decent enough form back too. Been poor too long now and can't last forever surely.

It always makes me laugh that people think draws are rigged. (Not you, Fronty...but @Busted.) It's a 50/50 shot, so I guess we'll see on Friday. I agree that Djokovic is due for a return to form at some point, but I'm wondering if Wimbledon is too soon, given all of the chaos and how meekly he went out v. Thiem just a couple of weeks ago. Can the fire in the belly return that fast? @DarthFed made a compelling argument a while back (before the merger?) that it doesn't. He's always been slippy on grass, and lately he's been wrong-footed on all surfaces more than expected, so I'd be surprised if he totally finds himself on the grass. My 8-ball says the North American HC swing.
