I'm hearing that Rafa is calling the Wimbledon adjusted ranking system "disrespectful"

@britbox can I officially lodge a request for the "crying with laughter emoji" please?

Nadal's actual comments:

"Wimbledon is the only tournament of the year that does it like this,” Nadal told Spanish television channel Movistar on Monday night.

“Obviously it would be better to be two than three but if they think I have to be three I will accept three and fight to win the matches I have to win.

“Having said that, the only thing that doesn’t seem right about this issue is that it is only Wimbledon that does it. If they all did it, it would seem more correct.

“It’s not only about my particular case. There have been many occasions when players have played well all year on all surfaces but Wimbledon does not respect the ranking they have earned.

“And for this reason they get more complicated draws.”

So yeah, don't fall for the sensationalist headline.

Nadal is not entirely wrong with his statement. But, at the same time, it should be not forgotten that grass court players are at a solid disadvantage due to the grass season being so short. There's nothing like having 3/6 masters and 1/2+ slams on your favourite surface. Grass players don't have that privilege. The seeding system gives them a short boost here. Mostly psychological.

Nadal is 100% right as usual. He's always been the voice of reason in the ATP. But not only is he extremely intelligent, he also has been blessed with good looks too. The world would be a better place if there more people like Nadal.

if he had said that at a time it wasn't to his benefit it might mean something. Frankly this has been the way it is all of his career. It amuses me no end how self serving he can be

I might also take his complaints a little more seriously if he wasn't pounding the table for 2 year rankings when it suited him.

Nadal is not hypocrite like others who like to make a good impression but they are working behind and more in the office. He says whatever he thinks and for a good reason. Wimbledon is getting more and more old in all the ways, the only thing they have improved has been the roof and nothing else, the first Sunday off is ridiculous, the schedule at night and not lights is even more ridiculous same like their stupid rules very different of the others GS like they are “special” (lol) they should hear better what many people says about them and then maybe they would become a little more up to date

I really like Wimbledon's grass seeding system. It makes much more logical sense. I think the French should follow suit. If they used this system then Nadal would usually be the number 1 seed, which would actually reflect reality. The US and Aussie could also do it. However, since there are more hard court matches they should only count matches f m the last year. I do agree that either all slams should do it or none of them but all seems better to me.

How is he 100% right. There is nothing new with Wimbledon for the last century seeding according to their formula. If Fed had lost in Halla he would have been ranked #2. It's not disrespectful at all.

Not calling him a hypocrite but the sour grapes here are kind of silly considering that he perfectly understands how the seedings are done at Wimbledon.

I'd say Nadal's "opinions" are more worthless. The twat whines when rules aren't perfectly to his advantage. Can't wait until the sport is rid of the tumor.

you know what worthless is? Giving any credibility to the poster who thinks that Federer built his slam palace on defence. I swear Pusher, I can't take anything you say seriously now. Keep on keeping on though! :lulz1:

I cannot tell if you've got a clever sense of humor and irony, or if you are a fan-child who really worships Rafa like these words imply....or perhaps some strange combination of both.

The jury is still out.

^ I don't quite understand how it is that you (and Front) like Dreddy so much, with his trick shots, especially, and yet you (and I'm pretty sure Front has) call Monfils a "Clown," (#16 seed above) when he is one of the more entertaining players to watch on the tour.

Nah, I don't call Monfils a clown but I definitely don't find him anywhere near as entertaining as Dreddy, particularly in grass season which is what we're discussing here and, when it comes to grass, Dreddy is a big talking point.

Monfils pushes the ball way too much. It makes absolutely zero sense when the guy has the ability to rip the ball at very fast pace but instead plays like Gilles Simon except for throwing in the occasional fast down the line or cross court forehand winner at mental speed out of nowhere. Pushing is a sucky way to play tennis and, though it may work for some, it's the wrong game plan for a guy like Monfils to employ. Likewise, he has a pretty good serve at times but chooses to often hit them way too soft for no apparent reason. He also throws matches stupidly like that RG match against Murray where he won the 3rd and 4th sets pretty routinely and after bringing it to a 5th set and having all the momentum, it looked like he deliberately threw the match. He was hitting balls about 20 feet long and the set ended 6-0 in about 12-15 minutes. Pathetic and embarrassing not only for himself but also for his nation, especially that ridiculous RG 5th set against Murray.

Be real here, if they were both tied at a mere 5 slams each (5 slams is still great but you know what I mean, it's nothing compared to the reality which is nuts 20/18) he wouldn't be saying shit. It's only an issue now 'cos they're playing for bragging rights in history with both near the end of their careers and becoming old and washed up. He wouldn't have given a toss about this ranking system 10-15 years ago.

He knows how the seeding system works for Wimbledon and instead of moaning he could have also played a grass tournament to stay ahead on points. His choice as always. He needs to man up and realize that like so many people in the world it's time to just accept that it is what it is and move on. He could've done something about it like I said but he didn't.

Nadal just needed to play in Queens and reach QF, he would have been #2 despite Roger winning Halle. Instead of doing that, he just cries foul play. He knows how the system works before hand as well as everyone else (and there is nothing wrong with the system in view of short grass season).
