Another beneficiary would be Goffin who moves up to #12 and thus would not have to face a top 4 seed in R16.

You're assuming an awful lot! Nothing automatic except #1 and #2 being on opposite sides of the draw! #3 and #4 can be either at the top or bottom of the draw; and so forth!

You don't know what you are talking about. In R16 the top four seeds are randomly drawn to play seeds 13-16 and Seeds 5-8 will be randomly drawn to play seed 9-12. I know the complete details of how the draw works.

Whatever Chico! :nono

#1 and #2 will be on opposite sides. 1 and 2 will be randomly drawn to play 3 and 4 in SF.
Seeds 1-4 will be randomly drawn to play seeds 5-8 in QF. In R16 it works the way I mentioned.
In R32, the top 8 seeds will be randomly drawn to play seeds 25-32 whereas the seeds 9-16 will be randomly drawn to play seeds 17-24. All the remaining lines in the draw (except for the 32 seeded players) will be filled totally randomly (without any restrictions) by the remaining players.

Hon Ive been on the tennis scene since '73 and even ran a couple tourneys myself; pulling my own draw as a matter of fact! I very well know how it works; thank you! :cover :puzzled :nono

Oh Roger. Oh no. I took him for granted for a long time. I was belittling and insulting him for losing last year, even though he had 10 losses in 2015 and 5 were to a guy that is 6 years younger. I just hope this is not career threatening, but how could you be an optimist when the guy played like 20 matches this season... I feel so bad.
He wouldn't win RG anyway, but what's a slam without Roger Federer.... :(

Yup, it's saddening for the tennis world. As much as he had little chance of winning it, to not even be able to see him play for most of the year to date is terrible for tennis and terrible for him. Roger himself must be gutted 'cos his chances of doing well in Wimbledon went way down. Even coming back 100% fit, he's nowhere near match tough having played so little :nono My interest in the French Open went way down already.
Trust me Dude.. I will miss Roger in the draw.. I am one of the Rafa fan's that actually admire Federer's style of play and game.. Its the smart move.. all that noise about Roger needing match play but not on Clay.. he will be back (no pun intended) and I expect to see him playing late into the 2nd week of SW19

Sad to hear the news. But, Roger must do whatever he feels is best for him. :cry

Since he withdrew before the draw is made, everybody below him moves up by one spot.
Major beneficiaries are as follows: Rafa who gets the #5 seed now, Milos Raonic who gets the #8 seed now, John Isner who gets the #16 seed (although he would have got #5 seed if Roger had withdrawn after the draw was made), Fog, who becomes a seeded player and an unknown lucky loser who enters the main draw.

Major beneficiaries are as follows: Rafa who gets the #5 seed now,

Skipping the French Open will give Federer more time to prepare for Wimbledon, a tournament he has won a record-equaling seven times.

Because of Federer's withdrawal from the tournament in Paris, nine-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal will move up to No. 4 in the seedings, meaning he will avoid a possible quarterfinal match against top-ranked Novak Djokovic.

Rafa gets the #4 seed not the #5 seed
After Federer, the next longest streak of playing at major tournaments is 56, held by Feliciano Lopez.

Got a few days; could still end up being a LL couldn't he? Let me go look! :p

No, he will not.
Stakhovsky got eliminated in R2, the LL will be the top ranked who is eliminated in R3 of qualifications.

It seems that certain Woger fans don't like to see more ahead of their nose. Who cares if Rafa plays as #5 or #4 though this last seed would be better for him but what we are seeing very odd it's the way that Woger is acting after his surgery and since IW "now yes, now not, I play I don't play, to be or not to be". I've never seen a player with so many doubts, pick up your mind sir Woger!:nono:puzzled

You care very much, that's why you're all worked up over someone deciding whether or not he is going to play in one of the 4 biggest tournaments of the year. Roger missing Madrid had nothing to do with the knee surgery. The back is a new issue since Madrid, causing him to skip that tournament and he was clearly not over it at Rome. You've had multiple people give you reasons as to why Roger should absolutely play a couple rounds if it doesn't risk hurting it much worse. But all you see is the possible #4 seed that your boy can be gifted.

I care because I don't have the malice like you do. To me it's great to see the top players playing well and also to see better competition. I hate the injuries though it's part of the sport and just some lucky ones can skip it though sooner or later they can't. Roger is almost 35 and it's obvious that he is not ready to play due to his back or whatever he has. He even didn't have to bother playing in Roma and now he is paying for that. He should take a little more time to rest and practice on grass instead to play a tournament which IS A LOT MORE EFFORT

LL is not necessarily the top ranked loser of R3. LL will be randomly drawn from one of the losers in R3 of Quals and in fact that is why they are called "Lucky" Losers.

I forgot to mention one more minor beneficiary. That is Jack Sock who is current at #25. He will move up to #24 and thus avoid drawing a top 4 seed in R3.

So, the blueprint for Novak's failure at RG is ready. Last year, he played Rafa in QF and then had to fend off a tough Andy over a course of 2 days and then succumbed to Red Hot Stan. In Rome, after playing tough matches against Belluci, Rafa and Kei, finally he succumbed to Andy. So, while no single player can get rid of Novak all by himself, they can pummel Novak steadily and thus prepare for his eventual demise.
Now, here is a request for the draw gods. Let Novak get the following draw (and in the later rounds
let him play consecutively for four days due to bad weather).

1st Round: Belluci
2nd Round: Zverev
3rd Round: Kohlschrbrier
4th Round: Thiem
QF: Rafa
SF: (hot) Stan
F: Andy

Revised request to draw gods due to Fed's withdrawal. Let Novak's draw be

1st Round: Belluci
2nd Round: Zverev
3rd Round: Kohlschrbrier
4th Round: Thiem
QF: Kei
SF: Rafa
F: Andy

They'll be appreciative as well! Sock can be tough! He defended his clay title here in the states against Querrey! :clap

Crappy news and a sad day. A slam without Roger is like omelette without eggs...

On the other hand, if he is able to train full on in a couple of weeks, he has time to be ready for Wimby, with the new schedule. He can even play 2 tournaments before Wimby if he chooses to. The key is to be able to practice for a couple of weeks with zero pain.

As much as I despise Nadal the French Open would likewise not be the same without him. It sucks for any sport when a top player is missing. Imagine the World Cup without Messi and Ronaldo. Even if you're not a fan, it's not the same thing without all the top players fit and healthy.

No, he did not. He lost to Juan Monaco in the finals while trying to defend. :cover

However, he is a rare American player who is comfortable on clay and even played reasonably well against Rafa last year in RG.

I think if you are looking at a player like Djokovic or Nadal that they know that the road to the title is more than likely going to mean a match up with each other. I venture to say they don't even really care when they meet because you have to play who you play. I think the interesting thing will be where will players like Kei, Zverev, Kyrgios, and Thiem fall to perhaps be a spoiler or provide a difficult match up. I was rather impressed by Kyrgios against Nadal on the clay. It will be interesting to see what happens. I hope the draw is a bit more balanced than it was in Rome. Rome was quite top heavy. It wouldn't probably have been as bad had Wawrinka actually lived up to his ranking, but even then it was quite uneven.

I didn't watch it; just listened to a show and remember them saying it! Oh well; thanks for the info! :cover :nono

Dude, I know what you are trying to say. I am trying to cope with life after Kobe bean Bryant.. I think he was the most fercious competitor next to Jordan, Serena and prior to 2008 Tiger Woods
