It seems that certain Woger fans don't like to see more ahead of their nose. Who cares if Rafa plays as #5 or #4 though this last seed would be better for him but what we are seeing very odd it's the way that Woger is acting after his surgery and since IW "now yes, now not, I play I don't play, to be or not to be". I've never seen a player with so many doubts, pick up your mind sir Woger!:nono:puzzled

You care very much, that's why you're all worked up over someone deciding whether or not he is going to play in one of the 4 biggest tournaments of the year. Roger missing Madrid had nothing to do with the knee surgery. The back is a new issue since Madrid, causing him to skip that tournament and he was clearly not over it at Rome. You've had multiple people give you reasons as to why Roger should absolutely play a couple rounds if it doesn't risk hurting it much worse. But all you see is the possible #4 seed that your boy can be gifted.

He does what he wants, he will not ask your approval where to play or when.

Those who had given trouble to Fed in the past, Stakhovsky and Falla, have been eliminated from the Quals.

However, those who have given trouble to Rafa in the past, Darcis, Brown and Brands, are still alive in the Quals.

Youngster Rublev is eliminated in second round.

Second round is now completed.

I was surprised to see Brand in the Quali's! I had just said recently I haven't seen him since going up on Rafa at the FO a few years ago! :dodgy:

Yeah, haven't seen him much either. Think he was mostly back on the challenger circuit which is a shame as he has a pretty decent aggressive game.

Anyway, here it sadly is officially:

"Roger Federer has withdrawn from this year's French Open after failing to recover from a back injury.

The 34-year-old did not play in the Madrid Open earlier this month after hurting his back during practice for the tournament.

Federer returned for the Italian Open but was beaten in the third round by Dominic Thiem.

"I have been making steady progress, but I am still not 100%," said the world number three.

"I feel I might be taking an unnecessary risk by playing in this event before I am really ready.

"This decision was not easy to make, but I took it to ensure I could play the remainder of the season and help to extend the rest of my career."

It means Federer will miss a Grand Slam for the first time this century."

Oh Roger. Oh no. I took him for granted for a long time. I was belittling and insulting him for losing last year, even though he had 10 losses in 2015 and 5 were to a guy that is 6 years younger. I just hope this is not career threatening, but how could you be an optimist when the guy played like 20 matches this season... I feel so bad.
He wouldn't win RG anyway, but what's a slam without Roger Federer.... :(

It had to happen sooner or later! Just glad he went ahead and bowed out before the draw was done! :ras: :clap

Sad to hear the news. But, Roger must do whatever he feels is best for him. :cry

Since he withdrew before the draw is made, everybody below him moves up by one spot.
Major beneficiaries are as follows: Rafa who gets the #5 seed now, Milos Raonic who gets the #8 seed now, John Isner who gets the #16 seed (although he would have got #5 seed if Roger had withdrawn after the draw was made), Fog, who becomes a seeded player and an unknown lucky loser who enters the main draw.

Yup, it's saddening for the tennis world. As much as he had little chance of winning it, to not even be able to see him play for most of the year to date is terrible for tennis and terrible for him. Roger himself must be gutted 'cos his chances of doing well in Wimbledon went way down. Even coming back 100% fit, he's nowhere near match tough having played so little :nono My interest in the French Open went way down already.

All good things must come to an end. So, the consecutive grand slam appearance streak stops at 65. This is an all time record. Second highest in Men is Wayne Ferreira with 56. Highest in Women is Ai Sugiyama with a streak of 62.

Suddenly, Martina's chances of securing a medal in Rio Olympics took a nose dive. Both her women's doubles partner Belinda Bencic and mixed doubles partner Roger Federer are skipping RG due to back issues.

However, she has backup options. She may end up playing with Timea Bacsinzsky in Women's Doubles and Stan Wawrinka in mixed doubles, if back injury is not healed in time for the originally scheduled partners.

That's another streak Roger should own for good! It's doubtful Nole'll be that resilient and hang in there another 5 years! He's had it tough battling Roger, Rafa, & Andy and has a family! Sooner or later he'll start skipping something; maybe the AO or FO since it's been such a grueling career! :dodgy: :p

Any news on Tsonga? He was also suffering from injuries of late and was considered doubtful for RG.

You're assuming an awful lot! Nothing's automatic except #1 and #2 being on opposite sides of the draw! #3 and #4 can be either at the top or bottom of the draw; and so forth!

You don't know what you are talking about. In R16 the top four seeds are randomly drawn to play seeds 13-16 and Seeds 5-8 will be randomly drawn to play seed 9-12. I know the complete details of how the draw works.
