Congratulations to Novak on winning the WTF (and for an excellent year). He made sure that there was no doubt as to who is the boss today.
Fed's serve was poor today and also the backhand was breaking up routinely in long rallies.
While the second problem is expected, the first one is not.
Now Novak had 5 WTF trophies and is almost sure to match and exceed Roger's ^.
When was the last time Federer served well in a a very big match, i.e. a grand slam final or WTF final?
If he did then the rest of his game was out of order until it was too late. TMF hasn't shown up in the really big matches for 3.5 years. He certainly has shown beyond doubt that TMF is alive by letting the inner TMF out in smaller matches. It is not about his game, he just can't bring it when he needs it most. No dig at Fed but, let alone Novak and Rafa, look at Stan or even Cilic or Nishikori, they all upped their games in the few very big [for them] matches they got to. Why did Roger choose Dubai, Cincinnati, Shanghai but not Wimbledon, USO, or at least Rome [which Fed has never won] to beat Novak? Is it just the best five format that he can't sustain physically? Then, how come he has taken out Novak in straight sets the last 5 times he won a match with Novak but hasn't won more than a single set in the first 3 sets of W14, W15 and USO15? Why does he win the RR WTF15 and Novak the final but not the other way round? Why does he beat Novak in the Monte Carlo [which he has never won] semi final only to lose to Wawrinka in the final? Is it just that Novak is unbeatable in Grand Slams in 2013, 2014 and 2015? Ask Stan, Cilic, Rafa and Murray. Am I cherry picking stats? May be. But then how come he often comprehensively outplays his semi final opponent and some part of his game seems off almost from the very beginning of the final?
