Lots of interest in this USO rematch.

Still amazing to me that Cilic has won a Slam but has never even sniffed a Masters title. He has never made one single Masters SF in his career. His career is the greatest example of that "One Shining Moment" that Americans are so fond of.

Why would Americans have any feelings about Cilic winning besides not having one of our own taking the USO last season? :puzzled - Cilic's been a fairly talented and successful player, but like so many others, he was very unlucky to have been playing in the same era as these "Big 3" who he has little if any success with! Nole's the only one who periodically has a bad day allowing a player like Cilic, Wawrinka, and Berdych to take him out while the others haven't given him a sniff IIRC! It's an anomaly that he has a major with no inroads in past Masters, but if we look back, maybe someone has been lucky to sneak in like that! To me, winning his lone major last season pales in comparison to him taking Queens a few years ago with disqualification of Nalbandian! I don't know why; just so surreal when David all but had the cup in his hands! Idiot! :cover :nono  :dodgy:

Your ability to just steer the topic away to something completely unrelated to the current match going on is simply amazing.

Nishikori does it! Beats Cilic 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 and advances to the Washington D.C. final! :clap

And Cilic remains the flukiest of flukey Slam winners. :dodgy:

It's a testament to the resiliency of humanity. A Japanese and an American will play the tennis final in Washington D.C. on the 70th anniversary of the Nagasaki bombing. Maybe there is hope for us after all.

After Isner pulled through in the first set with one break of serve, Johnson returns the favor so it is 1 set all.

They are not showing even the finals of this tourney on regular cable such as ESPN in USA apparently. After they started the USO Series, I thought they were showing the finals on TV.

Remember, this isn't part of the USO series and TTC is trying to sell their TTC+ streaming program.

They are not even showing it in ESPN3. Sometimes they show the Tennis Channel matches on ESPN3. But, I won't miss it as Isner may be part of it.

It's contractual. TTC said they were covering CitiOpen from first ball to last ball.

Will this be the year Isner doesn't burn out by the USO? He wins early in the summer, gets to a Masters' semi, then fizzles out! He's taking it to the limit as usual; deep into a 3rd set TB! Lucky enough to turn over and catch the end! Johnson's been in the zone; you know you're in the zone when mishits drop in! He'll only win here and there unfortunatly; no real weapon! He's just an all around good player; in the vein of a Todd Martin, Mal Washington, or Tim Mayotte! :dodgy: :p

Iznah isn't going to make it to the final unless Johnson chokes big time.

And chokes, he does. Had 3 MPs and couldn't put Isner away.

You are under immense pressure when facing someone like John in a TB. Count in the fact that Johnson was playing only his second ever ATP SF.
He had 2 times chances in the TB, going up a minibreak, but he did not come up with the goods in those cases.
I don't try to find him excuses, but he played bravely until those missed opportunities.

Only one was on his serve, by the way, the other 2 were nullified by aces
