In the mean time Ferru has won the first set and is up 4-0 in the second set.

Will we see blood? (mad doctor in play)

probably will see blood. The doctor was leading 5-2 in the opening set

Here is the OOP for the quarterfinal matches on Friday

AT 11:00 AM: Wawrinka vs. Benneteau (CC)
NB 01:00 PM: Raonic vs. Fog (GS)
NB 03:00 PM: Robredo vs. Opponent (CC)
NB 07:00 PM: Murray vs. Federer (CC)

CC is center court and GS is Grandstand.

Is that what we are calling David these days? Just a generic opponent? What happened to Farquaad?;)

That match was not over when I posted the schedule (although the result was virtually certain).
I did not feel like type 2 names with an or between them. It is now fixed.

I am not sure if I heard it correctly but but here is how the conversation went at the net between the person and Roger. The person, by the way, is one of those guys they bring down for the coin toss and some pics:

Roger- Are you from around here?
Person, Yeah, I am the Mayor !

Roger lifts his hands , sort of apologetic ....

Funny.

That's brilliant. They could have told Federer beforehand though.

Did you see this? Andy overheard Serena. He was playing on centre court and he could hear the interview. Oops! Funny though.

One interesting thing to note is that ESPN is making sure that Serena does not
cross paths with Chris Everer or Pam Shriver after the infamous "something in the
system, intentional etc" remarks. All interviews of Serena both on court and off court
are being done either by Men or by Mary Jo. How long will this go on?

What, Youzhny lost something like 9 or 10 consecutive games to lose the match? Last I saw, he was serving phor the phirst set at 5-3. As Phront would say...Looks like he went into phull Muppet mode. Dr. Youzhny = Dr. Teeth.

Youzhny must have lost 11 consecutive games. Because, he had a lead of 5-2 at one time
and the final score is Ferru winning 7-5, 6-0. I didn't see the match. May be he got injured
during the match?

Not to worry Billie, Novak will come back strong in USO where it counts.

GSM I am not really that worried, and nothing would surprise me from Nole. I am used to his ups and downs. His ups are so great that I forgive him his downs.;)

I am just a bit concerned if everything is fine with Jelena. It must be killing him not to be able to be with her while she is at this stage of her pregnancy. It is the first time for them. Hopefully everything is OK.

murray lept over a mental hedge vs isner, losing early again might have dented morale somewhat,

or..."the boy done great" as emelyn hughes used to say.

I spent 2 days and a night in Cincy, got loads of pictures to show for it and a final report to boot.
I had to drive 950 miles round-trip to do it but that's OK.
<--- I got me a new Avatar too!

So here goes...

As I drove in Wednesday morning before 10:30 am, there was a loooong line of cars to get in, as I got closer to the entrance I saw a hastily made sign that declared that the day was sold out and no ground passes available(I received an email today that Thursday is sold out too). The weather was perfect for a spectator, Sunny with puffy clouds with a breeze that made the temperatures stay under 80 F for most of the day.

I saw Andy play Sousa, that was a mismatch, there was not much to see. I did get some pics of Andy.

I saw big John's match against Matosevic, he was in complete control as it should have been, I think big John is coming into his own, he is getting better and despite his early losses in DC and Toronto, he gave Andy a run for the money today and seems to be peaking at the right time for the US Open.
I am hoping he is battle tested now, he will make a descent run this year at the Open and show up for the second week.

I also saw Roger play Vasek, I am sad to see the Master as just a shadow of his old self but let me tell you something, Roger may not be as good as he once was but he still brings in the crowds. By the time he made his way into the center court, I realized why the day was sold out, the entire stadium was full, he draws the crowds.

I also saw Grigor vs. JJ, that was the match of the day(for me), Grigor had the entire crowd behind him and JJ not so much, but JJ has the antics and shots that make the crowd go oooh and Ahhh. Grigor was by no means as colorful, although the crowd loved him and wanted him to win, he ended up trailing the entire 3rd set. JJ overcame all that and a couple of questionable calls, at the end he made the crowd beg him for those customary signed balls the winner throws for the spectators and patted the umpire on the knee after the match while taking to him with a smile.... The man understands politics.

As for my take on the tour, I am not convinced there is a big four anymore, the gap has gotten to a point where any 5 of the top 8 guys left in here can win it, by that I mean, Ferrer, Wawrinka, Raonic,
Murray or Federer! I have to give an outside shot to Fogini as well.
When was the last time that was the case? It's happening more and more.

Nothing is given anymore, who would have thought "the king of hard courts" go out of 2 master 1000 events so early? Who would have thought Andy be hanging to a top 10 ranking by 1 spot? Who would have thought Rafa miss 2 master 1000 events, a bunch of points and a be question mark for USO?

This hard court season, we will see future come to present.

Feeling good about Andy's chances tonight. Roger has looked slightly jaded in his opening two rounds so Mr Murray should be looking at this as a very winnable match and tournament if he's to consider himself a contender in New York.

Roger can level the head to head if he wins tonight though and this is one of his favourite courts, interesting tie shaping up.

The other quarter finals aren't really catching my attention apart from possibly Raonic and the Fog

Much bigger match for Murray than Roger. If Roger loses the extra rest could be helpful for New York and if he wins he is in the semis with a good chance to win the tournament. Kind of no lose situation as winning the tournament is a nice confidence boost but could come at the cost of playing too much the past 2 weeks. Only 1 week off and then the USO where he'd have to play 2 more weeks to win it. Murray needs this for confidence. If Murray loses he can't feel good about his chances at the USO.

^ Speaking of Rafa fans, Rafael Nadal has more facebook friends than any other male tennis player, and more twitter followers too.

^ Good for him, Roger is still way more popular and liked though that really means little in the end...

NADAL2005RG

^ There was an ATP Most Popular Player award that Federer won, but he put a link to it on his facebook page so all his fans knew how to vote for him.
While Nadal never mentioned it on his facebook page, and I had no idea it existed until after it was awarded.
So I haven't seen any evidence that Federer is currently more popular than Nadal.
And when Federer/Nadal walk onto the court to play each other, it sounds like Nadal gets bigger cheers than Federer.
As you said, it really means little in the end.....but like everything else, its tennis discussion.
