We will see. Stosur is not a fun player to play if you are being cautious trying to not exacerbate an injury. This is not looking good for the YEC if Serena is potentially hobbled, and Simona can't play at her best either. Not what a new venue for the YEC wants in its first year.

Thank you Svetlana well played and well fought - good match btw. :clap:clap:clap

@geniebouchard, @ARadwanska , @CaroWozniacki and @AnaIvanovic have all now qualified for Singapore

I've always liked her, so this is good news.

Now she faces Sharapova.

Who does everyone think will win that? I'm pulling for Kuznetsova.

I gotta go with Pova. She's been struggling, but now getting it done in straight sets. If she can minimize the DF's, I see 2 sets, 4 & 4, cuz Sveta has been playing well this week. Last couple weeks not so much.

No press conference for Serena Williams after three-set win. Released statement saying left knee is swollen, hopes it goes down overnight.

Well well maybe it's another withdrawal - then you have Stosur in a semi well well:nono

Geez, this tournament is cursed.

Sad to see Halep injured. Let's hope she goes to Singapore healthy.

I think it will be Pova vs Ana with Ana getting to the final.

The reason so many players get sick in Asia is because their immune systems are not used to the bacterial strains there. The way to avoid getting sick is to ingest only thoroughly cooked food and filtered water.

I too wish good health to all the players especially those remaining in Beijing, and those bound for Singapore. Let's hope Halep's hip and Serena's knee are nothing serious.

I see Pova over Ana, her game is been more focused this week, ie straight set wins. Should be a great match, as both are playing well. If Serena has to WD, I see Petra in 2 over Sammie. A Petra-Pova/Ana final would be a great second choice, as all three are playing well

Sharapova reached the final at Beijing in 2012,she was defeated by Azarenka in the final,Sharapova didnt not play Beijing in 2013,due to shoulder issues.

Sveta was not able to beat Sharapova with a one set lead last week in Wuhan, where Sharapova was playing worse than she is now,I can't see Sveta defeating Sharapova in this match.

Sveta does like this tournament. She has done well here in the past, so maybe she will be inspired.

Serena should withdraw. You can play through minor muscular injuries, never those involving joints.

I hope players get advice about how to ward off infection while in Asia. The body can develop antibodies if exposed to foreign bacteria over time.

Is Singapore played indoors? The humidity must be excruciating.

Any player whose immune system is low when it is fighting off a virus can is compromised in picking up another virus.

Singapore is a indoor event.I have been to Singapore the air there is much cleaner and less polluted than other Asian countries I have visited.

Serena never looks happy in Beijing even during the Olympics...she doesnt seem to be comfortable in China. She looks like she cant wait to get out of that place...remember Serena used to shutdown after USA Open...Venus was the one who used to like playing in Zurich and Moscow after USA Open....so this is virgin territory for Rena...

It's not virgin territory for her as she's played the Asian swing multiple times.

She just doesn't like playing after the USO, and yes, she always looks unhappy during this swing, but, it is her job to show up.

I think Serena's mind and body just quits on her after the US Open and says not really anything worth extending myself over.

^ Yes. TTC just announced that Serena has withdrawn citing the knee injury. Terrible news.

If Serena had won Beijing she would have clinched the No 1 position as well.

I think her health is more important than ranking...she can hold on to her ranking if she defends YEC.

I guess in tennis nothing is ever a given.
