This Aronian-Short game is wild! Pretty cool to see the old guys try to take it to some of the elite. This Isle of Man is the largest open tournament and so there are many matchups we usually don't see.

Qxe4+ and I wonder if Kh6 is somehow playable. Seems suicidal but it may just work after g5 and Kg7

Kg7 now Nxf3 Bxf4 Qd4 looks playable.

Qxf3 Bxf4 exf4 cxb5 may be the line here too.

Rd8 instead of cxb5. cxb5 and Qxb7 Rf7 Qxb5 Qxb5 cxb5 Rxf4 looked crazy

Aronian takes it, did a good job keeping the queens on the board and advancing the passed pawns. Fun game though!

Isle of Man? I've been so busy I haven't had a chance to watch any of it. Will have a look at the game later

I just played through it with a prog. It did give Aronian the edge the whole time, still a very sharp game though.

This Alina Kashlinskaya has made a name for herself this tournament, drew Giri and Kramnik the first two rounds and has won a couple other games against higher rated opponents. Looks like she has Sevian crushed today. She is a pretty attractive Ukrainian girl too.

The championship has started. Magnus blundered game 1

It looks even right now in Game 2. I don't think Magnus will be world champion after this match.

The only way I see Magnus holding on is if he can somehow sneak his way into the rapids. He'll be too strong for Fabi there. Otherwise... I concur, this doesn't feel like Magnus holds on. And it's not that he isn't the better player...

Hey @tennisville, do you play online at all? Always good to see some fellow players on these boards. Also feel free to post in the thread I made about the championship match.

Looked like a pretty straightforward draw today unlike yesterday. I still like Carlsen to win and it's because of the tiebreaks and how it affects the mentality of how they play these games. If they both were even in faster time controls I'd favor Caruana overall. But it is a slam dunk for Magnus if it gets to faster time controls.

That is true. Magnus is a machine when it comes to time control. If it goes there, I don't see him losing

I do play online but just for fun. I can never think that ahead and am not that strong on the openings. I love watching chess though since I can see how Grandmasters think when they are in the same position as me.

Not quite the same magnitude and publicity as Caruana-Carlsen but the women's world championship final is going on this week as well. It was a 64 player knockout tournament with each round before the final consisting of 2 classical games and then tiebreaks if needed. The final is 4 classical games. Yifan Hou is not playing as apparently she is studying at Oxford. The final is Kateryna Lagno vs. Ju Wenjun. I have played Kateryna in a bunch of 3 minute games on chess.com a couple years back (her username is Pylaeva). She's a strong lady and I will be rooting for her.

Real nice win by Kateryna today in an opposite-colored bishop endgame. Up by a point with just 2 games remaining. Would be awesome if she wins!

Looking good for Kateryna now, she got the draw today and just one game away and she is white. Tough to go all out to win a game as black. The game today was interesting. I'd think White had better options to apply pressure at the end but haven't been able to look at it in depth yet.

Very passive and weak play from Lagno. She looks to be in trouble here.

Ugh, that's too bad. Still will be tiebreaks tomorrow and Kateryna is very strong in quicker time controls. That will be hard to recover from though.

If Magnus isn't careful with these draws to lower ranked players, Fabi will pass him on the rating list without lifting a piece in anger

Yeah he does have to be careful especially since there are some guys rated quite a bit lower.

I'm interested to see how Vladimir Fedoseev does. I really really enjoy his games online and expect he will make another big move soon. He gained quite a bit of points last year. He took a loss today though.

Vishy will be kicking himself today. I'll be shocked if Magnus doesn't close this out now. Looks like he's starting to regain his mojo
