I doubt Fed will play Montreal. He hasn't confirmed yet but I'd imagine since Cincy is where he defends 1000 points he'll try and recover more for another week and give his back the most rest and therapy he can. I hope this is what he does anyway. Rafa's camp say he mightn't play Cincy so expect him to try hard here if that's the case.

I believe Fed will play unless his back ache is very severe. In
one interview he said he wants to maintain his ranking (in another
he also said he does not care for his rankings anymore). Being in
Top 5 consecutively for a longtime might be an important item
as far as the record books are concerned. If he wants to maintain
being in top 5, he should play both Montreal and Cincy as his
450 points from Olympics and 1000 from Cincy will be coming
off and Berdych is only about 1000 points below him with not
much to defend in both Montreal and Cincy.

Having said that, as far as the USO draw is concerned,
it does not matter whether he is no. 5 or no. 8 as long as
he manages to be in top 8, which of course he will.

^ I have to say, it's surprising to concede that Roger should at least be in the top 8.

And Rafa needs to rack up enough points to pass Ferrer, which I think he can do, so he's #4 going into the USO.

Where are you looking at? Rafa is #4 already, if he's going to pass Ferrer, he will be 3rd.
The top 4 seeds are already decided for USO. Novak and Andy will be the top 2, David and Rafa will be 3/4 (in any order), Roger will be 5 (or 6).

I'd say he's the favourite. No1e started practicing only 2 days ago, Fed's back is sore, Murray always loses early after big wins and I think Delpo may be injured too.

I'd be cautious about saying what Murray "always does." He's on a new roll, and you, as a fan of Djokovic should be the first to respect that. That said, I would say that Murray has only to make a decent showing in Montreal and Cincy, and tune-up to defend the USO. Nole needs a bit of a confidence booster, as does Federer, so they'll be looking to do well. And Rafa needs to rack up enough points to pass Ferrer, which I think he can do, so he's #4 going into the USO.

I don't know about Murray, I wouldn't give him that much credit at all.

Frankly, I believe Delpo can win everything until he gets exhausted/injured if he is not injured right now (I have no idea what happened with his knee since Wimbledon). He made me much more impressed in W semi than Murray in the final. Delpo's game was exactly spooky.

Del Potro was amazing there alright. So was Djokovic. Not clear if DP was simply playing with anti-inflammatories and hence didn't feel much pain or if adrenaline simply made him play through pain there. Maybe there's not much wrong at all and not playing since then has just been a cautious decision as to be honest he looked completely fine. Hope so anyway. Really impressed with him in that match. One of the best matches I've seen in a decade.

Hopefully not himself. He hasn't hurt anyone else as badly as himself in years.

How did I forget that!? Momentary brain fart. Anyway, this is a part of the season when Rafa can pick up points, but hopefully won't do more than he needs to before the USO. Not sure how many points the guys above him need to defend, but Murray loses his Olympics points soon. (When does that happen? Next week?)

On the ATP site, within a player's profile, click on the "Rankings Breakdown" tab, and you'll see the entire list of which points, from which tournaments, constitute their ranking. The column on the far right indicates when points are dropped.

The Olympics will drop next Monday. Murray will lose about 750 points. But, he is only defending a combined 180 points in Canada and Cincy. Ferrer is only defending 10 points from Cincy (he didn't play Canada). Djokovic has the most to defend before the US Open (1600 points).

Murray has an 11-9 winning record against Roger, so it's not rare.

The wind was a big factor there last year against Berdych and in the final. We'll see how the weather is there this year. Murray to his credit is a much better handler of wind than Tomas or Novak who probably need to invest in some extra Windeze tablets beforehand.

negative.

wind or no wind. you have to be able to deal with it all.

top players are top players for a reason. they got to the top by battling elements their entire lives.

berdych is not consistent enough and he lacks the required testicular fortitude to challenge the best of the best on consistent basis.

Not giving Murray credit at this stage in the season makes you a toad. Warts and all. Of course you're impressed with Delpotro's game, because he almost beat your guy. I was, too. But you ignore my point about "the New Murray." You are a bit puny to undersell him, since the "New Djokovic" made such a splash. I think the "New Murray" is going to be a force to be reckoned with.

With the WTF being played in London, Andy will have home
crowd support. Given that he was won Wimby and Olympics
at home, now the support will not be a pressure anymore and
will help him win it. That will be another first for Andy as he
has never won it before.

However, he is not going to take the USO again. Leave
that to Djoker or Delpo.
