Can't claim to be a fan, but you want to see the best play at the biggest tournament. As a Fed fan, the only positive is that Roger will be on the other half of the draw from Novak. But it doesn't really matter at the start of the tournament anyway!

That's basically how I feel too. I can't lie and say I don't like Federer having a better chance at the USO. Still, not having Rafa around doesn't feel right especially when he's the defending champ.

This is the right decision, as sad as it is. Playing nothing before the Open and testing your wrist for the first time in a match setting in a best of 5 would be suicidal.
I hope this heals properly and does not become a lingering issue .

It is sad that Rafa can't play at USO. Does anyone know when he will be ready to go.
Hopefully, he can make it to Beijing/Shanghai during the Asian Swing. There is full six weeks
from today to the start of ATP 500 in Beijing.

It is really very sad news that Rafa has withdrawn from US Open. It is sad not only for Rafa fans but sad for all the tennis fans as well. It has taken away some excitements from the competition. Wish him speedy wrist injury recovery.
