JMDP has officially withdrawn from Toronto as well. However, he is still nursing hopes
of playing at Cincy and USO. May withdraw from them too at a later date. At least as of
now he has not withdrawn from them as there is no hurry to do so.

I read on another forum that he has a right wrist injury, which will require 2-3 weeks of rest.

Big shame for Rafa, the tournament and the fans (depending on who you support). This could be a game changer for somebody though.

Murray goes from 9th seed to 8th so he now gets a first round bye and can't face anyone ranked above him until the QFs, with Berdy now a potential opponent in that round instead of Rafa.

With one of the two major roadblocks out of the way, the door may be open for a Raonic or a Dimitrov to nab a big title here.

And the one who will benefit the most is Roger, who will be seeded 2 in both masters. I am sure Darthfed will be very happy;

Doesn't matter where in the draw he is at Cincy. It could help in Canada. Anyways I don't like to see anyone get hurt, even Rafa, unless they deserve it (which he hasn't).

shock news :(..(along with hearing about Eastbourne pier along the coast up in flames) hope its not a massive problem and he might recover in a short time.

don't like it when they say "immobilize the wrist"..looks like he could be in the del potro zone, :( occupational hazard for sports folk, out of nowhere.. BOOM..injuries.

He's one cursed bass turd. 2009, 2012, Oz this year, and now this. The guy is like Jonah. I knew after Oz, this year was gonna be a nasty one... :nono

Given that the injury is in the right wrist and his dominant arm is the left arm, hopefully
he can come back soon.

Talk of a cast is not good news.

Well that's true, but there's no play with a sore right wrist. Impossible to drive through the backhand. It's a distinctive feature of Rafa being right-handed: he gets extra push on the backhand from the use of his right-hand. It's similar to del Potro, in that a 2-hand backhand is impossible to hit at a high level, if either wrist is bogey...

This would mean that Murray will be seeded in top 8 in both Toronto and Cincy.

1. Murray is currently ranked No. 10. As both Rafa and JMDP have withdraw from
Toronot, Murray will move up to #8 seeding.

2. By the end of this week, Murray's actual ranking will become #9 as JMDP's
500 points from his Washington DC Win of last year comes down. As Rafa
has withdrawn from Cincy as well, Murray will be seeded in top 8 even if
JMDP decides to come back at Cincy.

This seeding in top 8 will also help him avoid playing Berdych until QF as Berdych
moves up to #4. Also, this would fetch him bye in the first round of both Toronto
and Cincy.

All that remains to be seen is whether, he can make use of the opportunity\.

Yes, it is not easy by any means.

All that I was saying is that in comparison to left wrist injury, it is better.

It's not much better, to be fair, or he wouldn't skip two MS events. Without these, he might throw himself into some small snot-rag event before Flushing Meadows, if he can. It's turning out like 2012 again, withdrawing from summer hards, prior to the US Open...

Terrible news no matter how you slice it. I can't see how he could injure his wrist that badly during a practice session unless he fell on it somehow. Is there a new report about how this came to be?

Another result from this is that it all but assures the year-end #1 to Novak Djokovic. OK, maybe not all-but-assured, but it gives Novak a big edge in points as he is only defending 540 points in those two tournaments to Rafa's 2000. No one else is within spitting distance.

Novak also injured his wrist in practice only before MC. These guys put all their might
into the wrist and hence, you never know what will happen.

Which wrist was it that Nole injured? Because I find it odd that Rafa and Delpo both picked up wrist injuries in their non-forehand side.

There is only one event left after Cincy and before the USO at Winston and that starts in 2 weeks and a half. Highly unlikely to see Rafa play there, because he has a cast for about 2 -3 weeks. After you take a cast off, your hand is weaker and needs sometime before it gets back to normal, playing right away would do a lot of damage, risking to pick up some chronic pain or worse.

Playing Winston the week before the US Open wouldn't be advisable, and like you say, he might not even be fit in time. Unless he gets an absolute nightmare draw, I think Rafa's chance to play himself into form will come in the first 2-3 round of New York.
