I wanted to give Novak the benefit of the doubt but it really was irresponsible for someone involved, including IW itself, to tease his participation.

Tommy Haas, there really is no excuse for this.

Tommy Haas doesn't control the borders of the USA. It was up to Djokovic to withdraw because he was told by the government or CDC that he can't enter the country. The tournament can't kick him out because it's not up to them to decide whether there's a way for him to enter the USA or not. The tournament was trying to communicate with Djokovic's team but got no final answer.

In conclusion, it's 110% Djokovic's fault, he should have withdrawn before the draw. For the future if there's any drama or a stupid situation like this, then my suggestion to you is to just assume that it's Djokovic's fault because that's how it always is.

If this is really final, and it looks like it is, this is incredibly disingenuous by Novak, in his tweet. He acts like he had no hand in being listed for IW. IW tournament said they were in touch with his team, acting as if they were still trying to get him in. He could certainly have formally withdrawn before the draw was made, and thereby unbalanced with him in it. Once again, he plays the innocent here, which I don't buy for one second.

From Novak Djokovic,

"While I was automatically listed in the BNPParibas Open and Miami Open draw I knew it would be unlikely I'd be able to travel. The CDC has confirmed that regulations won't be changing so I won't be able to play in the US.Good luck to those playing in these great tournaments".
Jelenafan already posted this.

I would imagine the LL will be Sousa, will come into the draw once qualifying has been completed.
I will have to re do my draw I guess, though I will wait till qualifying is completed
Djokovic should be find for not withdrawing earlier as the draw came out, also it is not a injury.

I agree with this, and I have to say, @Jelenafan, you are kind, but it is time to stop giving Novak the benefit of the doubt. The tournament is not in charge of how Novak's visa disputes are going, and they said they were in touch with the team, implying that they were lead to believe that he might yet get in. Novak could have solved this ages ago, as he implies that he knew he'd never get into the US right now. However, he didn't. It's on him. Tommy Haas couldn't just drop him out on an assumption.

Indian Wells knew the federal mandate regarding who can enter the country, if they had removed him from the draw you really think it would have created any kind of controversy?

But if he was in touch with Novak's team, as has been said, and I think you have to believe, who is Haas or the tournament to know that they might be working out the visa issues? He does have expensive lawyers, and this is the US, after all. (In terms of expensive lawyers getting things done.) What if they'd removed him from the draw under an assumption, and his lawyers got him in? Well, that would have created a problem. Don't you think the burden is on the player, who is obligated to play, if healthy, to say that he has another reason to withdraw, before the draw is made? I mean, tournaments don't second-guess when a player is injured.

"Novak Djokovic is on the tournament entry list, and therefore is placed into the draw today. We are currently in communication with his team; however, it has not been determined if he will participate in the event by getting CDC approval to enter the country."

So clearly Djokovic and his team told the tournament that there's no final decision yet and to keep him in the draw. Djokovic waited until the very last minute (despite admitting in his latest tweet that he knew there was practically zero chance). He obviously didn't care if it ruined the draw.

All I can say is Novak's wife had better hope that if she ever doesn't get stuck on a island, Novak will not share the last rations of food.

Yes we are happy. :) In conclusion Nadal is the GOAT and Djokovic is a drama queen, don't ever forget that. :good:
Personally, I'm not happy to stick it up Jelenafan's nose. All I said was that enough with the benefit of the doubt.

While this is for another thread, it seems that the "GOAT" is a movable feast these days. I'll be waiting for the end of the story.

One bad thing about the Draw Challenge is that they are very late to update, say for qualifiers, etc. I'm just going to wing it and hope for the best.

Another player affected by Novak's late withdrawal is Joao Sousa would have been in the maindraw. Now he has to hope to get the LL after losing to Eurbanks in the qualifies.
