Kudos to Chardy, he's clinging to Federer like a bad reputation.

Who are the unwashed folks cheering?

Surprised to see him struggle with Chardy again, Roger knows what's at stake. He has put himself in position to have a great year...

This is a good example of how misleading the words 'mental strength' can be and how it can be confused with overall level of play. Federer should have lost this match in 2 sets and it has nothing to do with the clutch factor in the last tb. Chardy is thoroughly outplaying him and really painting lines. However b/c Roger has such a great serve and hold game, and b/c of his dogged resilience, he's still in this match.

Mental strength for Federer is keeping him in it, but its probably not enough to get a win. For that, Chardy's level will have to drop.

Rog wants more practice and so is playing 3rd set.

Meanwhile, we are now set for the R3 match between Andy and Grigor. This is a match
between two contenders and so is interesting. Also, this is the first time these two are
meeting after that infamous "f****** minutes before the match" incident @ Wimbledon.

He already has one. You should be happy.

Except he didn't win a single slam :snigger. Frankly, I'm surprised he is even in contention considering his slam results, only one final and two semis....

Is it just me or does Chardy's forehand seem bigger and more dangerous than Rogers?

He's got a little bit of that Soderling thing going on with his FH. Big swing, high risk. When it's on, it's tough to deal with.

Cheers

Except that knife slices both ways. Had Novak done better his #1 ranking wouldn't be in jeopardy.

Nah, he hasn't... It's about legacy for him and what enhances it. 2 MS events and the #2 rank is great for the average 33 year old but doesn't do much (ie anything) for his resume. Slams, #1 rank and YEC do. He still has a chance to do something big this year but so far he hasn't

Yup. But Novak won Wimbledon.

Dont forget Davis Cup. That is something big he actually hasn't won.

There's been no dominant player this year. Rafa's been injured a lot, and Nole has been happily busy elsewhere, with his wedding and the baby. It's opened the door for Federer and left us with a thrilling finish...
